Tattoo ideas, suggestions. lower back/female?

mycarnival

Im getting a lower back tattoo done & for the center piece im doing a butterfly, really cute butterfly outline and the main design is gonna be MY eyes, ((like watch my back, eyes in the back of your head idea)) then the designs in the wings around my eyes ill decide later along w/ colors but im looking for ideas to put on the sides of my tatt- tribal lines, swirls, [example, flowers but i dont want flowers] what else is there??? depending what colors i choose for the actual center i can put in the side designs as well but i dont want it toooo mainstream, considering what type of tatt its already going to be... any ideas?

Answer
im not gonna tell you that a tramp stamp is trashy cuz i personally dont think they are. actually i think they are very attractive, as long as its not some generic design. however, you say you dont want something too "mainstream" but youre getting a butterfly.. thats mainstream! 9 out of 10 ladies i know that have lower back tats have a butterfly and/or some generic tribal design. the one girl that has something original is the one that has the most attractive piece.
anyways.. put some more thought into it. youre on the right track with the eyes thing.. but i think that will look kinda silly. just keep brainstorming and you can easily come up with something beautiful and original.
but if youre stuck on the butterfly thing.. well good luck.

Want a tattoo.. don't like pain.. just a small one.. any ideas?

lisa

Okay, so I really want a tattoo.. I'm scared of needles but I think I could try to handle it. I'm not that big on pain haha, so I was wondering if any of you have advice on where it would hurt less? I want a butterfly on my shoulder.. not sure if I want it that small.. hmm.. help!?

Answer
Emily....the pen, huh??

Wow. Okay, so no matter where you get it, it is going to hurt. But if you get a small tattoo like you are planning, then your pain will be short lived. Also, the design you choose could be a factor. If you choose a design that is nearly all filled, you will be in the chair longer and find yourself in more pain, whereas if you get stricltly an outline and minor shading, you'll be out of there in now time. But, I think you will find that after five minutes or so, it isn't "white-knuckle gripping" pain, rather "annoying, ouchy, I wish it were done pain". And when it's done you'll feel so proud of yourself. And if you are getting a tattoo around your shoulder, make it the shoulder blade. I once saw a woman with five or six small, colorful butterflies on her shoulder blade all with their wings in mid flap in varying positions...it was rather lovely. If you decide that you don't mind the pain so much, you can always add to a shoulder blade tattoo with something along the same theme.
Good luck in whatever you decide. You can do it!

Answer
Yeah I can understand the importance of having high quality tattoo designs. You can print them out right? You're smart girl. ;)

Lower back for a butterfly is just plain awesome. You SHOULD get it because I have it as well.

Expose it in the hot sun at a beach. You'll get the guys staring. No sheet lol.

But make sure you get one that's of DECENT style.

Here are some that I like. The 3rd one's my favourite :))

Explaining a tattoo about self harm?

Thelivelyh

Well I want to get a small butterfly tattoo on my wrist or LOVE written there.
My boyfriend asked me why I want a tattoo and I don't know how to explain.
Im struggling on here to explain to ask how to explain... I don't want him to think it's a stupid reason.

I've self-harmed in the past and very recently just stopped completely. I have scars (mostly on my legs) and im sure that my boyfriend will just say I have scars to remind myself of self-harming, but I want the tattoo to basically show myself that i've overcome it. How would I explain this in the simplest way possible?

I'm pretty sure some people are going to say that tattoos are a form of self harm but I don't want anyone who is going to say that to answer. Its my body and its to show myself that i've overcome something that kept me together for years.

So basically how would I explain? And which is better, butterfly or LOVE?
Thanks

Answer
You could just tell him straight: "I don't know how to say this and I'm sorry if it makes no sense, but..." And then explain it as you did in the question. Say that you did it to remind yourself that you're strong and of your accomplishment. He should understand.

And I like the butterfly idea.

If it were me, I'd get a tattoo of either:
- A symbol for hope or strength.
- Something with Personal meaning to me: eg. "Never give in." because it's a song from a band which have helped me a lot to get me through life.

Tattoos covering Self Harm Scars?

EdianBlair

So, I wanna get a tattoo on my arms but I have scars from previous self harm incidents.

I was wondering can tattoos cover the keloid self harm scars?

Theyre pretty raised and yeah.

Also, What design should I Get to better the cover up?

Tnx! :)

(Please No Rude Comments)
Actually on my wrists Im planning to have LOVE on one and YOURSELFS on the other,

Answer
A tattoo is PERFECT to symbolize a memory. I love your idea by the way! My best friend and I were self harmers as teens and once we recovered we got matching tattoos of monarch butterflies, because black and orange are the colors of the self harm ribbon. If you know you're going to be proud of your ink even when your skin ages, go for it! <3

Vine tattoo design on my leg...?

hld2968

O.k. so I'm going to be getting my next tattoo here soon and I have a general idea of what I want but I can't find any pictures or anything to use as a referance. I really want to let the tattoo artist be creative and come up with something but I would really like pictures to use as a referance etc. Anyway I want some kind of a vine tattoo going up my right leg (from about mid calf up) with some small flower buds. I want there to be like a fairy at the bottom of it like its working it's way up and then other little things around the vine/flowers or sitting on the leaves. ie. ladybugs, butterflys, etc.
The tattoo is going to be on a big portion of my leg and visible when I wear shorts/skirts so I want it to look feminine and sexy. Any ideas on good websites to find pictures or anybody wanna draw me something? It can be differant than what I described and it doesn't have to be ladybugs/butterfly's but you get the idea.

Answer
hmm... well i dont know of any websites specifically, but you could try looking on www.bmeink.com. they have a huge selection of tattoos.

You could also try www.deviantart.com and just search for "vine tattoo" or something similar.

Realy I think if you described that to your tattoo artist they'd be able to get something perfect for you drawn up.

What kind of leg tattoos can swirl up and down the leg?

tina

not one thats too thick

Answer
A vine, with or without flowers, with or without a bird, maybe a hummingbird, or maybe a butterfly, or a little beetle.

Butterfly tattoo/s?

Danel

I was wondering if anybody knows where I can find any pictures of this tattoo I like of a butterfly. It's actually two halves of a butterfly, but when you put your wrists together, it makes a full butterfly. Any help would be appreciated. :)
I'm not actually interested in getting the tattoo, by the way. I just want to show it to somebody I know, because I liked it. :)

Answer
Hmm...try the 3 websites I've listed below...

1) http://www.checkoutmyink.com/
2) http://www.everytattoo.com/
3) http://www.tattoofinder.com/

As for the two halves of a butterfly, that's something an artist would do when you give them the design. You can do that too with photoshop.

I hope the above helps...

Does WHITE INK show up on DARK INK?

Juel

Can white be tattooed over dark ink to be made lighter and to make highlights?

Answer
It really depends on the artist and the inks. I would recommend checking out several high-end, health-licensed & autoclave-using tattoo salons and going through their books where most keep pictures of all the tattoos they have performed with both before healing and after healed pictures. This will give you some idea as to how well the tattoo will hold up and how it will look. You will want a skilled artist with the best inks available to do something with white over a dark color.

I say this because I have a purple triquetra with black lining but the coloring inside is purple with lavender vines (actual lavender as in lavender planted in a yard or around a garden gate as it represents health; I chose it b/c I have Lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's disease along with a retinal disease & recently learned I have inflammation of the corneas due to the Sjogren's that requires me to use 2 optic drops daily to reduce the inflammation in order to prevent corneal abrasions, which will scar if not treated early and it will prevent me from being able to at least have a shot at donating my corneas at my death so someone else can have what I am losing and that is the gift of sight). The lavender vines that fall down the side of my wrist in sort of an open bracelet (I haven't chosen a design for the back yet and I won't have the bracelet completed until I reach that decision then I can have the tat brightened again with updated ink b/c they do fade after time, esp when using sugar scrubs to remove dry skin in order to keep aging skin appearing youthful, pliable, and taunt but if you use sugar scrubs, DO NOT USE THEM OVER YOUR TATTOOS AS THEY WILL LITERALLY REMOVE THEM OVER TIME... Just gently wash the tattooed areas with a nice heavy moisturizing bath soap like from LUSH or Bath & Body Works; I prefer Lush b/c their products are all made fresh and they have a large selection of organic soaps that don't have "soap" in them but they do have cleansers but the non-drying type. Soap in and of itself that is bought at the grocery store or your department stores vs the boutiques have drying soap in it and it causes the skin to appear dull and lack of luster whereas the non-soap cleaner for skin from boutiques mentioned above can clean skin while leaving lots of moisture, which is great for tattoos and for your skin in general especially in winter months when your skin dries out from the cold outside & indoor heat)

Be sure to go over the tattoo artists' books and check out the quality. If possible, ask for references and even meet and view the tattoos of other clients with tattoos of various stages of age say from initial ink to long-term as in several years or so after the initial ink was done. This will give you a better idea of quality. The higher the quality, the higher the cost but when it comes to tattoos, spare no expense because you will be living with this tattoo for a long time and if you don't like it you will have wasted money, time, and the emotional upset not to mention the possibility of the costs of having it removed if another artist cannot adequately repair and beautify the initial tattoo.

Btw, I LOVE THE DOVE! It's beautiful. Are you considering it? If so, it is literally beautiful. I am considering a few other tattoos including the Om symbol, a Tibetan prayer, and the purple butterfly (albeit an intricate custom design) to represent my fight with lupus.

Both of our girls are hoping to have the same tattoo but maybe in a different area than mine when the youngest is older and the oldest has extra to spend on another tattoo. Our oldest has 2 tats already, which didn't set well with her dad but then again mine didn't set well with him either but he got over it b/c I let him know it wasn't his body and he had no say in the matter, the end, period and it was the last he said about it. LOL!

The white that is added into the lavender & vines in my tattoo and the white in my daughter's one tattoo turned out well but please know we use a high-end, highly talented, & well-known artist who does standard as well as custom designs. He draws out the designs for custom jobs and then inks them freehand from the drawing after we tweak out what we want and how we want it before the inking is even remotely time to begin.

i was thinking about getting a tattoo. what's it like? how do they do it? how do you care for it? past experiences would also be helpful.
Thank you!!

Answer
It feels like someone is using a razor to cut you, and then holding a lighter inches from your skin. After the first 10 minutes or so your endorphins kick in and it doesn't hurt as bad, but it sure don't tickle.
They take a needle with ink and pierce your skin, driving the ink into the layers of epidermis.
To take care of it, you keep it clean - use antibacterial soap four or five times a day to clean it, then use a fragerance and dye free lotion to keep it moist - the goal is to keep it from scabbing. If it scabs over, that's not a problem in and of itself, but if you pick at the scabs or they are ripped off, someof the color from your tattoo can come off as well. It takes 7-10 days to heal, and you shouldn't swim or take a soaking bath (showers are okay, just try not to let the water hit it too much - you don't want it to get waterlogged) and you should avoid exposure to the sun for the first two weeks or so.
As for what to get, I highly recommend grey-scale. That's where they use all blacks and greys instead of color - when the colors fade out, it can look pretty awful. Have something drawn up and hang onto it for three or four months. Then look at it again - critically - and see if you still like it. If you do, it's time to shop for an artist. If you don't, start all over again.
Now that you've got a design that you like, you need to think about where to put it. You should keep in mind that gravity will take over when you get older - and that a great deal of white collar employers require that tattoos not be visible - so the side of your neck is probably not a good decision. The 'tramp stamp' is pretty popular right now, the one at the small of the back - but you won't be able to see it very well, and really, what's the point of that? Try to decide on a location that can be concealed to keep from traumatizing your kids, but is easy to show off if you have a mind to.
If there is a bone close to the surface (spine, shin, ankle, elbow) or if it's a particulary sensitive area (the inside of your upper arm in the case of a tribal band) you probably want to avoid that for the first one.
If you are unsure if you can take the pain, ask the tattoo artist to draw on you with a dry needle first. That's a pretty good gauge.
Oh, last thing - NO NAMES - it's a curse for your relationship if they are living. Trust me.
In hindsight, I wish I'd done some kind of theme with mine, like all butterflies of different colors, shapes, and sizes - that could have been cool.
So, draw it out, think it over, and don't make any rash decisions. You have to live with this for the rest of your life.

2nd tattoo design ideas!!!!! Anyone wanna help?

Mrs. Campb

Okay. I love stars, hearts, and butterflies. The stars are more of a meaning type of deal. But, to make it cuter,i like butterflies and hearts. However, if i don't find a really cute design that has all three, i'll just get stars. But yeah! Help me out!!!!

Ps...it will probably be on the side of my right calf.
Britneyb, thats funnny that you say that because i actually don't like it when people are tattoo'ed up the butt so bad you can see them all over. Plus, i work in a place where that would be a big problem. I know it would

tattoo meaning?

bandit s

i hear that you should get a tattoo that means somthing instead of something you just like to look at so you dont regret it,
but im strugling to think what a meaning means becuz i have a few tattoo choices but they each mean a different thing

like one of an alien head,i think it looks cool and my dad has the same one
then theres one of a cheetah skin rip(it looks like the cheetahs ripping through the skin) i think it looks kool and i loved cheetahs since i was a little kid

and theres one of a biomechanicle skin rip and it looks like your skin opened and your inside lookes sorda like the terminaters did with wires and steal bar , i like that one cuz i love the terminater movie

then theres real nice one of a jesus portrait,i never go to church but i feel like i have a conection with god and i pray to him

but im having trouble figuring out wich one means most my question is what do you think means most to me

Answer
I have three Tattoos... One is a tribal tiger on my arm that i helped draw i got it because i was born the year of the tiger and it was my 21st birthday so it was kind of symbolic.... on my back i have a tribal yin and yang made up of two dragons... the meaning of yin and yang has always been dear to me for every evil there is good and vice versa and i love dragons so it was a sure pick... the third one is on my ankle and is "Mariposa" and a butterfly i got that one in dedication of love... im gettin another soon on my other arm, a tribal lion, strength& independence is what that one means to me. Basically all of that bable i just did boils down to the fact that only you can truly know what means something to you. My tip however is this, get something that you can look at for the rest of your life and it still makes you smile or feel proud that you got it. Print out the ones you like and stick up copies all over your room, in ur bathroom, everywhere u are, if after a week or a month u still actually like it and it still holds the same meaning for you then by all means go out and get it :) Happy Inking.

butterfly tattoos - meaning????

terry34por

I've seen countless women that have these butterfly tattoos on the small of their back usually or around the neck and shoulder area.

Is there any meaning to that or is it just something to look pretty?

Answer
Butterflies are extremely feminine!! And FREE!

I got my first tat a month ago and the artist was trying to talk me into a butterfly. I personally said no bc there are other meanings for it. ;}

I think for most girls it represents "girlie"! They are sooo cute too!

Opinions on this Butterfly tattoo?

Mren L

http://blogs.babycenter.com/momformation/files/2009/02/tattoo-by-shannon-archuleta.jpg

What do you think of this tattoo?

I'm thinking about getting this done soon and I've been getting mixed reviews on it, my friends thinks it's to much and my boyfriend likes it.
I'm thinking of getting mine much smaller than that though
mrstomikaulitz - well I want it exactly like that pic , with the butterflies going in the same direction as pictured but on a much smaller scale

Answer
i hate butterflies and have a great dislike for butterfly tattoos. however, this one is very interesting and is growing on me the more i view it. i think it would look really beautiful if you had it on the same place of your back, and agree that at a smaller scale it would be more tasteful. in addition, i think you should ask your artist to either put some color in the wings of the butterflies or add some black/grey shading... to give it more depth, personality, and realism. it would also make the tattoo more your own and appear less that you copied someones tattoo, which is a really tacky and inconsiderate thing to do.

Bible verse to go with butterfly tattoo?

joellen

Not looking for a lecture about tattoos.
I'm getting a blue butterfly on my left rib and I want to see if anyone knows a good short bible verse to go with it! No chapters just the verse.
And not looking for a lecture on how tattoos are a sin. Thanks god bless

Answer
Um tattoos aren't sins, and anyone who says otherwise is a bigoted asshole.
I don't conform to any religion, so I don't really know any bible quotes...
Might I suggest some quotes from Holocaust survivors instead?

âThou shalt not be a victim, thou shalt not be a perpetrator, but, above all, thou shalt not be a bystander.â â Yehuda Bauer

"Love gives us wings to soar above it all." -Sara Atzmon

âHatred is something we must fight against.â -Leslie Meisels

Oh, I suggested Holocaust quotes because the butterfly is the symbol of the Holocaust.

Bible verse that is short and can go along with my tattoo of a butterfly?

KgraceS

In a few weeks I am getting a small tattoo of an intricate black and white butterfly. It will be about the size of a post it note. I would love to get a bible verse in calligraphy or feminine cursive beside it or going up the side of it. I am not sure what for it to say though. I would love for it to come from the bible and say something about being made new or recreated. (which is what the butterfly symbolizes) All help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Foot Tat. Questions-Please Need Help From Tattoo Artist on Pain, Cost, Etc.?

OrganicMom

Please help esp. if you are a tattoo artist or have experience...
I want to get this butterfly but on my left foot (already got 2 tat's on my right side ha). I have a tat on my ankle and butt and 2 piercings but I swear I hate needles. How painful do you think this would be and about how long do you think it would take?
And what do you think an average for price would be for it? Do you think an artist could copy this exactly? I sure hope so I've wanted it for years...
Do you guys think this would look dumb since the butterfly faces towards me and not outward? Or think it would look ok otherwise?
Thanks so much!!

Here's links to pics of it:

Answer
I've seen better butterflies, but it's cute if that is what you're going for. I prefer the realistic looking butterflies myself. But this tattoo is for you, so if you like the design, then do it. I wouldn't be too concerned with the pain for a tattoo of that size, even if the location is on your foot. Setting up for the tattoo will take longer than the actual tattooing I imagine, and yes, the artist should be able to copy that exactly. It's a very simple design. You'll be paying the shop minimum for that tattoo because it will take less than an hour, so you're looking at anywhere from between 40-80 dollars, depending on the shops prices. Don't forget to tip.

what are the meanings behind your tattoos?

sugar, spe

Answer
I have a blue and purple butterfly in a realistic style (it looks like it just landed on my shoulder) and soon to have "The sounds of a piano rebounded, dissonance in my head" around it. It's a work in progress xD

It's based off my favorite song, Butterfly on your right shoulder, and I LOVE the tat :)

Tattoo design?

skom15

I'm 43 and am considering getting my first tattoo. I have a job that requires me to have a professional, conservative appearance, so it needs to be covered while at work - I'm thinking back or shoulder blade. I know what I don't want - no fairies, hearts, rainbows, butterflies, angels, or other "girly" things. I like eagles, but all the designs I see are very masculine and large. Any advice?

Answer
eagles are fairly 'manly' to begin with. so i think you'll be hard pressed to find anything more effeminate. but mainly, you shouldn't ask other people what kind of tattoo YOU should get. getting a tattoo is a pretty big choice that you will have to live with for the rest of your life. my advice is to take your time and be sure that's what you really want. and don't ask for other people's advice or approval about your choice of tattoo.

Need tattoo designs to cover up an old one!?

Answer
a roselette or a butterfly
the rose would be drooping downward though

she could get a tribal star (easy cover-up)
it's too bad her outline bled so much

how painful is a tattoo on stomach or hip ..?

Kimberley

i have had one on lower back i found it bearable whats been your experience of pain with tattoos .. thanks

Answer
I found that my butterfly on my lower ab/hip area hurt a little more than the tattoo above my shoulder blades did. If you even have a tiny stretch mark and the artist tattoo's it, that's what hurts. The further south it is the more it hurts. Like then tips of the bottom wings are what hurt a little.

I want to get a tattoo on my lower stomach?

Nikki O.

But, i am worried that one day if i ever decide to have children, when i am pregnant the tattoo will stretch and look bad after i have the kid. Should i not get the tattoo there because of stretching? Or do you think it will still look fine one day?

Answer
My wife has a butterfly tattoo on her lower stomach and right now she is nine months pregnant. The once little butterfly now looks like an eagle! =)

After a few seconds I want to know why they got those tattoos. If they said 'cause I thought they'd be sexy,' I'd instantly be turned off. It has to mean something to you. Tattoos are an expression of the artist who drew and colored it, and the person who the tattoo is on. The artwork becomes just ink and lines if it is meaningless.

R&B Songs about courage, support, inspiration, friendship, comfort, etc.?

OC Residen

Uplifting or feel-good R&B music from the last 5-9 years? No hip-hop (not trying to dance to these tunes). No gospel (unless the lyrics are secular enough for a wide audience). No Mariah Carey (too old), please.

I can't imagine there is a lot that would fall into this category these days, but I would like to see as many song ideas as possible.

Examples:

Mary J Blige - Stronger, Flying Away
Alicia Keys - No One (not a favorite track of mine, though)

Thank you.
Some close ones, but so far no keepers suggested so far. And it's discouraging when some folks don't fully read or blatantly disregard parts of the question too (such as suggesting Mariah Carey or older artists when specifically asked not to).

I'm open to any tattoo styles, and i know the koi turning into a dragon is a good one also the phoenix has some transformation symbolism. Any other ideas i would greatly appreciate.

Answer
well are you looking for positive change? It might be a little girly for you but you could do a caterpillar to a butterfly. You could always make the butterfly looks bad-a w/ fangs or red eyes or something. You could go from a tadpole to a frog.... idk those were just the first two that came to me. A rose opening, but that might be too girly too. idk haha I'm pulling ideas out of thin air. sry.

tattoo redone?

sweetiekat

can you make a tattoo a different color, I have a butterfly and I dont like the colors can I go over what is already there

Answer
you can.
i know for sure you can if the color that you want to go over with with, is darker then the original.
but as for it being a different shade/ or something, then you might wanna talk to the person who did it. maybe they can figure something out for you.
you might have to keep going in to get it re-done in the spot, so it'll be darker. that's what i would assume.<3

good luck!

how does it feel to get a tattoo redone?

black is b

i want my butterfly tat on my back redone

Answer
I have a butterfly tat on my back and i had the blue retouched. It was actually pretty painful. There is a pulling sensation of the 3 prong needle. I also had a heart on my hip that i had turned into another butterfly and they used the large needle on that one and it burned more than anything. The tat needles are going through scar tissue ( all tats after they heal are scar tissue) thats why its a different sensation. Its definately different and i think it hurts a little more.

What flower goes with a butterfly tattoo?

angel g

I'm getting a pink butterfly tattoo on my birthday at the end of this month, and I'm looking for a pretty flower to go with it. I do not like roses. I was thinking about the cherry blossom flower but that's also pink and I just think the tattoo would be too much pink. The way the butterfly is positioned looks like it's landing on something (side view).

I was also thinking of putting some vines or swirls around the butterfly and flower.

Please let me know what you think or send me some pictures of good ideas for my tattoo.

I've googled and bing'd so much for the past week and I just cannot find any design I like.

Answer
What about Calla lilies which has many colors but I would white or pink (its mixed with white so not totally pink)
http://imagecache6.allposters.com/LRG/30/3065/NTZDF00Z.jpg

Pink daisy, just get one with different shade of pink from the butterfly
http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium/pink-daisy-with-raindrops-carol-groecar.jpg

Or a pink Zinnia
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Monarch_Butterfly_Pink_Zinnia_1800px.jpg

Actually orange flower should be nice with pink butterfly if you like it. Imagine the flower is orange and the butterfly is pink
http://www.aefraser.com/blog/july08/orange_butterfly_4.jpg

Otherwise a blue Iris should be nice with pink too.
http://gardenpartyflowers.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/the-blue-iris-1.jpg

I don't which position of the flower will be the best because I didn't get to see the butterfly and I am not a tattooist so better that you discuss with him/her when you made up your mind on the flower to do.

Which lower back tattoo design is more sexy to you?

Chloe

I kno a lot of people think lower back tattoos are considered "tramp stamps" or means she's a slut ect.. but I really don't care cuz it's for my man's eyes only. Just choose which tattoo design you think is sexier & explain. Thankss : )
The other is a heart w/ a crown on top
w/ a skull on each side lookin down

Answer
Go with the heart and crown as I think it'll look great!

I have a lower back tat myself, a butterfly (surprise, surprise) which I got in University years ago. Didn't really care what others thought about it and I still love it! And no, I'm not a tramp as my fiancée thinks it looks pretty hot on me.

I also have five other tats that followed that first one and may go for my seventh soon.....leaning towards either a garter tat on my right leg or a bow on each of my hamstrings.

Best of luck and I think it'll look fabulous!

Would a butterfly tattoo on a man be too feminine?

ArEkAy

I just recently had a dramatic change in my life and wanted to get a tattoo to symbolize it. So, I thought of a butterfly and their metamorphosis. I also wanted to get it on the upper back between the middle of the back and the posterior deltoid.

Or maybe I could get a different design that could define change? I have two tattoos: one on my wrist that is an infinite symbol, and one on my forearm that says in latin script, "Aut viam invenium, aut faciam."
it's spelled "inveniAm" on my arm i just misspelled it on here.

Answer
If it is pink and purple, yes. I think you should get one that is red and black.

Like - would colour be good?
Where is a good place on the foot to get it? I don't want it to be HUGE...
It's a symbol of overcoming depression which I've been dealing with for about 4-5 years...

Answer
I love this style rather than the more realistic ones, but I would get one in an olive green colour... depends on your skin tone.

Quotes to go along with a butterfly tattoo?

Jennifer

Answer
Why do you want a quote?

I think it would just be better on its own. You know why you want it, thats enough.

The main point is that if you don't know what to write, then don't have anything. It needs to be something that YOU have come up with or its not worthy to go onto your skin FOREVER.

Good luck :-)

im getting a butterfly tattoo on my foot this week. Any ideas of a quote I could put with it.?

Alexis

Answer
Why!?!?! Why do you need a quote? Quotes are so cliche, and very, very boring. Let the tattoo say what you want it to say. Tattoos are meant to be art, not a bunch of words surrounding a nice picture. Plus, if you're doing it on your foot, the words will look like crap in a very short time. Word tattoos need to be large, and in a bold font. Small writing in cursive or a fancy font will look like scribbles. Don't ruin your tattoo with words.

butterfly tattoos - meaning????

terry34por

I've seen countless women that have these butterfly tattoos on the small of their back usually or around the neck and shoulder area.

Is there any meaning to that or is it just something to look pretty?

Answer
Butterflies are extremely feminine!! And FREE!

I got my first tat a month ago and the artist was trying to talk me into a butterfly. I personally said no bc there are other meanings for it. ;}

I think for most girls it represents "girlie"! They are sooo cute too!

lotus flower or butterfly tattoo?

ive been through alot of crap but im starting a new phase, like a fresh start and i want to get a tattoo to symbolize this, a small one on my neck the can easily be covered so what new u think, a lotus flower or a butterfly?

Answer
I'd go with the lotus.
Lotus tattoos and rose tattoos are without doubt the most popular floral tattoo designs among women. The lotus and rose are very similar. The lotus flower is held in great esteem in the East as the rose is admired in the West. Symbolically they can represent the same thing. As the lotus rises from the murky depths so does the rose grow amongst uninviting thorns.
The lotus flower actually originated in Egypt, and has had a major role in the local myths and legends. The ancient Egyptians revered the Nile water-lilies, or lotuses as they were also called. The Egyptian lotus is known for opening its flowers in the morning and then sinking beneath the water at dusk and like roses were used extensively at burials.
Lotus flowers are symbolic of rebirth in Eastern beliefs, but aside from the religious meaning, the lotus also symbolizes truth and enlightenment particularly to those of the Buddhist faith.
The modern interpretation of the lotus flower seems to be one of estranged love or new beginnings. Many people get lotus flower tattoos after the break-up of a relationship. This may mean that they have risen above the depths or alternatively may return back to it as the lotus returns to the pond.
But, just so you know, just as many women get lotus flowers as they get butterflies. I myself have a lotus flower, with my own meaning for getting it....but guess what else I have. LOL, a butterly as well.

i want a tattoo & im supposed to be getting one this week. im just not sure what i should get. it'll be my first tat so i dont want anything big or a complicated design or anything. any ideas?im open so just put any ideas you have, sorry for being so vague =/
if you kinda want an idea of what kind of person i am then you can visit my myspace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=22209896&MyToken=15fdd315-bdb9-44f0-b714-ba34612ec7e2
oh and please dont try to talk me out of doing it...i already made up my mind...

Answer
Maybe your astrological sign? Your user name has kitty in it, so something kitten related? A rose or butterfly (I like the pic on your myspace page). Your myspace URL mentions rainbows... If you had a simplified version of the theatrical masks or one of them like the smiley or frowny one... you could have it on one shoulder (or on the back of it) and put the other one on the opposite shoulder later... It doesn't hurt to ask your artist if they have anything they specialize in.

I am pro-tattoo, so I wont talk you out of it! Well, pro 'good' tattoo. I hate tattoos that are hard to read or figure out what you are looking at.

If you think you may get more tattoos later you may want to leave popular spots free like lower back, below the neck, whatever.

My sister got one (illegally) when she was 16. She mainly regretted it because the quality was poor (what do you expect from someone who would tattoo someone so young without permission!) The good thing is it is low on her hip where you can't see it.

Here is a site I used to go to. Sorry that some pages in there are graphic, but it usually warns you: http://www.bmezine.com/index.html

Not saying you haven't done your research... but please read http://faqs.cs.uu.nl/na-dir/bodyart/tattoo-faq/idx.html, particulary the one on sanitation so you know what to look for in a shop. Just because you know someone who went somewhere once doesn't always mean it's okay for you!

tattoo ideas?

jenn_41587

I was thinking about getting a tattoo, but I really dont have nething that would be "symbolic" to me... I really like butterflies, and i guess it could be symbolic concidering I'm getting ready to get married and thats a big change.. I just want a cute "small" butterfly that I can put somewhere on my lower back. Is there anyone that is really good at drawling that would like to sketch me out a cute butterfly? Thanks

Answer
Not all tattoos have to be symbolic, if butterflies are what you like, then get a butterfly. It's your body and you have to live with your tattoos, so they should be something like. Any tattoo artist can sketch one for you, or you could do a Internet search and take in some pics of what you like and have them draw it for you. Here is a link of some butterfly designs, hope they help.....
