Why do women prefer butterfly tattoos?

warrior

Answer
I recently got a butterfly tattooed on the back of my right shoulder. I got it not because its pretty but because it means something to me. I have been through a lot of stuff and i have come out a different person for the better. The butterfly that i have for me symbolises transformation and change. It also means that i have come out stronger but still delicate like a butterfly.

In general, i think most women get butterfly's because they are feminine and pretty to look at but women get butterfly's for different reasons. :)

Hope this helps :)

What should I know before getting a tattoo first time?

I am going to have my first tattoo tomorrow. What should I know before doing it? I've decided it would be a butterfly on the lower back. Also, should I take a pill to lower the pain?
Appreciate all answers!

(Ready for a LONG answer??)

Okay - I have two full sleeves, tattoos on my shoulders and back, and my right leg from the knee down, so I've been around the block, so to speak.

First and foremost - RELAX, RELAX, RELAX! You will be okay, just breathe! The more nervous and tense you are, the harder it will be. You don't want to be tight and tense.

So you know it is going to hurt a little, but don't freak out! If it was that bad do you think I'd have spent several thousand dollars on more and more?!? Most people I know compare the sensation to a bee sting, a sunburn, or an annoyance - not real hardcore pain. I won't lie... some can hurt, but you will be fine. And what's a little pain and discomfort for a couple of hours compared to a whole lifetime of a meaningful tattoo? And remember, each person is different. Everyone's bodies are different and everyone has a different threshold or pain tolerance. What might hurt to your friends may be nothing at all for you!

Contrary to popular belief - DO NOT take a painkiller before or right after a tattoo, and avoid alcohol the day before and the day of the tattoo. Painkillers and booze thin your blood, and that's the last thing you want. You will bleed out ink and it will also make it harder for the artist. And trust me - booze will make you sick, and you DON'T want a hangover that day! Wait at least 24 hours AFTERWARDS to drink as well.

Take the day off of work since this will be your first. Make sure to get a good night's sleep the night before. Make sure to eat plenty on the day of the tattoo, and have a meal or snack shortly before you go. Maybe bring a soda or Powerade sports drink along with you. Mountain Dew or something sugary wouldn't be a bad idea. With food and sugar in your belly, your blood sugar will thicken your blood and it will A) bleed less B) clot faster C) you won't feel as bad. My brother made the mistake of getting his first on an empty stomach. He turned white, then pale green and was jittery and naucious. His artist stopped, gave him some crackers, and everything was smooth sailing from there. He cleared up and felt fine! People get jittery and shaky when on an empty stomach, they get woozy, bleed a lot more, and bleeding causes dizziness and light-headedness. Some people feel sea-sick even though they are motionless. MAKE SURE YOU EAT BEFORE!!!

Try to put on some music an hour or so before to relax you. Bring along your favorite CD. The shop may or may not allow you to play it. If not, bring an iPod or discman. You will want to be as relaxed as possible. Let your artist know it is your first and they will try to make the experience a good one! Try striking up a conversation with the artist during the tattoo to take your mind off if it. You will probably be a little nervous, and anything to take your mind off the situation helps! Also, call ahead and ask if a friend will be allowed with you. Some artists allow others in the room; other shops are strict and have rules against anyone else being in the room. If you can, bring a friend!

During the tattoo, be SURE to have something to drink with you if they will allow it in the shop. Most places allow you to at LEAST have water in the room with you. My guy lets me eat and drink while he tattoos me so long as I don't make a mess! If you start feeling warm, dizzy, lightheaded, sick, or any other kind of discomfort let the artist know right away! They will let you take a breather. Don't be shy or embarrassed! I've seen big tough biker guys take breaks!

Immediately following the tattoo, make SURE to listen to the after-care procedures given to you by the artist. Follow his/her directions and his/her directions ONLY and SPECIFICALLY! Most places will send directions home with you on a slip of paper, like a "care sheet". If not, take notes on what they tell you! If you have any questions, ASK THEM! Do NOT mess around when it comes to aftercare... it is important if you want to keep your tattoo looking good and staying clean and healthy! Be sure to take the artist's name and the shop's phone number with you as well in case anything should come up or you have questions later!

GOOD LUCK - and welcome to the Addiction! Email me with any ??'s

(oh yeah, one last thing - just because some people on here may tell you not to do it - DON'T LISTEN. That's where you want it, so DO IT! If you back out because you are scared, nervous, or think its a "tacky tramp stamp" you WILL regret it. Hindsight is always 20/20... Be sure to get the tattoo YOU want, not what anyone else tells you or convinces you to get, or not to get for that matter! Just be damn sure it is what you want and that you will still like it in 10 years...)
