After a few seconds I want to know why they got those tattoos. If they said 'cause I thought they'd be sexy,' I'd instantly be turned off. It has to mean something to you. Tattoos are an expression of the artist who drew and colored it, and the person who the tattoo is on. The artwork becomes just ink and lines if it is meaningless.

What is the reason for getting a butterfly crown tattoo?

MJDM

Answer
It meant something to the person who got it.

butterfly tattoo designs far and away the most popular tattoo design request. Its ranking shows the influence that women have in tattoo culture, as butterfly designs are an overwhelmingly feminine tattoo choice. The butterfly, because of its short life, its physical beauty, and its fluttering from flower to flower seeking nectar, has among many ancient peoples been regarded as an emblem of the impermanent, unstable characteristics of the lower human soul. The caterpillar lives its period, making for itself a chrysalis, which after a stage of dormancy is broken by the emerging butterfly. This suggests the idea of the less becoming the greater, of an earthy entity becoming aerial. These thoughts led the ancient Greeks to use the butterfly as a symbol of the human soul (psyche); and in their mythology Psyche was in consequence represented in art with butterfly wings.

And

Crown Tattoos have long been used as a symbol of royal power and authority. Like the sceptre, the crown is a visible badge of office, granting the wearer, it's possessor, the absolute right to rule. That authority to rule was often held to be divinely inspired. In the Christian tradition the garland of thorns placed on Christ's head during the ordeal of his crucifixion is know as the "Crown of Thorns". The centerpiece of any coronation of a new monarch is always the moment when the new King, Queen, or Emperor has the state crown placed upon their head. At that moment the power to rule is transferred to the new monarch.

As a symbol, the crown also symbolizes leadership, and the rightful authority which comes from being elected by a group to serve as their leader.

Many groups have used the crown to symbolize the power and authority to lead or command. When it is combined with a cross, one of the meanings of the crown is "victory," and the cross symbolizes Christianity. Many Royal crowns in Europe incorporated the Christian Cross into their design, reinforcing the Monarch's claim that their right to the throne was a divine right and that the Monarch was guided by the hand of God.

As a tattoo symbol, the crown doesn't just mean the right of one person to command another. It symbolizes and individual's sovereignty over their own life, feelings, thoughts, and actions. The crown symbolizes self-control, and is a reminder to use power and authority wisely and justly.

What does everyone think of tattoos on the side of the arm?

I have been wanting a tattoo similar to Sahar from the Real World New Orelans and Elina from ANTM cycle 11. I think it looks delicate and feminine, but I don't know if it will always look good. What do you think?

Answer
I think their tattoos are really good and they will always look good. But I would like to recommend you some other tattoo designs because tattoo designs must be unique, you don't need to copy their tattoo. If you are looking for some feminine & delicate tattoo designs then in my view butterfly and fairy look good on arms. Let's see on this girl having a wonderful tattoos of butterfly on her arm. we think Both women and butterflies have wonderful, curvy forms. They both have delicate, soft texture and are very pleasing to the eye. Tattoo of butterflies can be any size is also important.

butterfly tattoos: overdone, acceptable, or beautiful?

Q. many women these days are getting butterfly tattoos. Do you think that they are too popular, just fine, or do you yourself really enjoy these tattoos?

[answer the question without comments on how tattoos are gross please =)]

Answer
They can be either. The same goes with hearts, stars, love, live, believe, etc. Personally, I think a tattoo should have personal significance. The other poster getting those butterflies isn't tacky because there is meaning behind them. I couldn't say the same fire me though.

I do like it when people personalize designs though. Hearts are little overdone, but if I got a tattoo it would include am heat with a cross inside and sun rays around it because it has significance to me.

As long as the design means something, and has since personal touch I think it's fine. And I think, stars are more overdone than butterflies.

Tattoo Design Suggestions Please?

Thomas

Reflecting on my life one day after coming home from working out at the gym I realized I really do want
a tattoo now. I've been thinking about getting one for awhile now but now I'm set on getting one but I don't want just anything.... The reason why I want the tattoo in the first place is to remind myself of everything I've been through in life or at least to remember the good times and keep going. The tattoo has to symbolize both good spirit, positivity, will to go on even when things aren't going my way, and respect. I plan to have it on my right arm (upper half)..and maybe chest if it's a big piece.

Can you guys suggest something??

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.

Answer
butterfly tattoos is a popular tattoo for females. Butterfly symbolizes freedom and beauty. If you think you are like a butterfly that flutters freely from one flower to another, then you should consider this tattoo. A lot of women get this tattoo for its attractive and usually colourful appearance.

What is it with men and lower back tattoos?

BriansNotD

I went on a first date with a man this week who (accidentally) saw my lower back tattoo and asked so many questions about it! Now I was just watching Disney Cars and the male car is talking about a pinstripe tattoo on the female.

What's the big deal about that spot?

Answer
i asked my boyfriend about this one.

according to him, the small of a woman's back is very sexy. as far as tattoos there, it's a spot that is already a very sensual spot and a tattoo there is more often obscured. i happen to have a tattoo there (and no, it's not a tribal design or a butterfly or anything else "typical") and it's rarely seen by others. the first time my boyfriend saw it, he also asked me questions galore. he now jokes that it's like x-marks-the-spot; that's exactly where he puts his hand.

Tattoo are a beautiful way to decorate your house :)
I meant house....................................... as in the skin you live in

Answer
Keep on decorating. they more the merrier! My house is beautifully decorated with six very expensive pieces of art work. I think that "hating" is ignorance. People hate most that which they do not understand. It's also a way for them to voice their opinion. Who else are you gonna complain and b***h to about tats, except those who have them already. I think it's crazy. Tattoos are not the mark of the devil. They've been around much longer than modern religion. In fact, they were once a mark of status and honor. It's a personal choice to get one. I think my art is beautiful. It's very representative of me as a woman, wife and mother. I have a flaming blue rose (strength & honor and courage), celtic runes for strength and journey, a Brazilian & an Americana butterfly (small things cause bigs changes), a dragonfly (wild and free spirit, the power of light. The dragonfly inhabits two realms: air and water and passes the influence of both these elements to the wearer), a fairy (personification of human wishes and desire in the form of little people with magical powers. As a tattoo design they can be symbols of youthful innocence and a desire to retain a child-like imagination, wonder and awe) and a vampire in the shape of a cross (strength & protection for evil doers, religion personnified). For people who hated it, they just don't understand it.

How can I convince my g/f to accept new friend with tattoo's?

So much is happening here in India. Esperanza and I are finally starting to relax now that we've identified the place where we want to get Ryan his tat. Thanks for the suggestions, everybody! We still have to book the appointment.

Anyway, remember that âbackpackerâ we saw getting tattooed at Baby Tiger Tattoo in Randi Market? We ended up seeing her in a âdhabaâ (like a diner) with her boyfriend....and their little one! It turns out they are Israeli. So we chatted with them and about their tattoo experience. Aleah (the backpacker) has a whole bunch of tattooâs. She has:
- a white tiger on her left ankleâ¨
- two tigers with Chinese symbolâs for best friends in between on left shoulderâ¨
- memorial for her dead ferret on right ankleâ¨
- a dragonfly on right shoulder
- a dragonfly on wrist â that was the one we saw her getting!

She told us the story behind each one, and we were very touched. So meaningful! All I can say is that we are VERY anxious (in a good way)!

Their daughter, Netanya, is around 7 monthâs, so she and Ryan got along well. Aleah and Namir (bf) invited us to go hiking with them in Dharamsala â that is up in the mountainâs where the Dalai Lama lives!!!

We really want to go, but there is one small problem. As you know, Esperanza thinks women with tattooâs are sort of trashy.....I know, I know....she canât help it though, itâs her cultural upbringing. I think itâs ironic because Aleah and Namir are Israeli and they are not âsupposedâ to get tattooâs either...Ranza doesnât get the irony.

Help! What can I do to convince her otherwise??? I REALLY want to go to Dharamsala (and I know she would enjoy it, too)....

Answer
I have been following this saga from the beginning, From the dragonfly picture that I saw from the "Baby Tiger" artist, she is an amazing artist and I am sure that this backpacker's other ink is amazing as well! I really can't wait to see a picture of the ferret tattoo if you can get one because I lost my pet rat a while ago, and I have been looking for a memorial tattoo design on the internet and haven't been able to find one! I think with a picture of the memorial tattoo for the back packer's ferret in hand, I might be able to go to my artist and get my tattoo started! I mean without an exact picture of what you want, how can you expect your artist to get the tattoo right?!?
But I digress...
Anyway, if Esperanza has seen the amazing art that on this woman, and she still thinks that tattoos on women are trashy, then there is no changing her mind! I mean, it is pretty much the same as someone seeing Jesus perform a miracle live, right in front of them, and them still not believing! At this point there may be no hope. However, before your friends start off on their journey, can you please get the ferret pic and email it to me? my address is tribal_and_butterflies_ and_rats_4 ever @ tat.com (take out the spaces).
Thanks and good luck with Ranza!
