Dear R&S, do you have any tattoos? Do they hold any spiritual or personal significance?

crapbag

Also, please feel free to describe them! I like tattoos and I like hearing/reading descriptions of them.

Answer
I have a red/blue/green butterfly in flight on my right shoulder blade which I got when I was 16. My dad jokingly promised me a tattoo (on my a-s-s!) for my 16th birthday when I was 14 and I never forgot that. My parents were kinda against it. But I made them mad till I got it. And my mother wanted to come and see the design cuz she thought I would get something obscene or silly. But eventually it was the butterfly which signified freedom, after my 10th grade..

On my 18th birthday, I wanted another one and I got a blue bass guitar on my left hip with the words 'music is my life'. And the day I went to check for it that is my birthday, the guy I wanted to tattoo me was not there, and on the spot my mum who wasn't really a tattoo person decided to get a lady bird on her ring finger because she is allergic to metals and cant wear any jewelry.

Then when my sister turned 16 it was her turn, she got 3 shaded stars on the wrist and a custom design which if you looked at closely, you would see all the initials of every member of our family (this design was copied by another girl who saw it on facebook and she actually had the nerve to put it up! Our family initials!) Simultaneously my mother got another one on her hand/wrist, a rosary.

All this time we would trouble my dad to get a tattoo too. But he was never interested. Suddenly one day he put up pictures of himself with two tattoos on his calves on facebook and tagged us in them. He got it in Mexico (He works on a cruise line where as my family is from India). He a cross with a creeper and a flower wound around it, descending from heaven with the sun rays and clouds and also a few doves complete with family initials again that signifies heaven. And the other one is like the grim reaper with a machete that signifies hell..

And this is my dads quote..

Its funny how life is First you impress some one you want to spend your whole life with..(Len)
and then comes a time when you want to impress your Kids just to hear them say "My Dad is Cool"
So 5 hours of pain and encouragement from 6 beers through the saga....These Tattoos are for Roxanne and Sheehan.
Done in Cozumel Mexico after sleeping at 5 am and waking up at 9 only to do this as it was my only chance since
on the future ports no chance for this.....
And for all of you who think I am crazy....You should meet Roxanne & Sheehan.and you will see it was worth it...
If they could persuade Helen to do it.I could do it....Just to tell you how much I love you I tried to make it
bigger than life so you decide did I do good and Am I cool or What????
Tatoo is dedicated to all the family at home the initials hope you can see them......
Tatoo is still in the healing process so will look better sooon...

Now we are thinking of getting a tattoo all together as my dad is back home for a while..
Sorry for typing so much! But you really seemed interested!

Answer
Tattoos used to be about individualism, but not any more. It is now acceptable to copy other people's ideas. Tattoos on the top of the foot are more painful than other parts of the body where there is less bone to deal with. The tattoo on the side of your hip depends upon how little fat you have on your hip bone. All tattoos hurt. Some hurt more than others. Some people are more sensitive to pain than others. Your mileage may vary. Some people who are concerned about pain start off with a small tattoo to check it out. Stars and butterflies are often overused for that.

Some butterfly tattoos?

Randommera

HI, I am going to get a butterfly tattoo on my hip/leg area, and though I do like some I have seen I haven`t fallen completely in love yet. I want several small ones flying up my leg. Any ideas? Thanks

Answer
Just be sure it's a design and location you can live with. Depending on your age you'll be looking at that tattoo for the next seventy years or more.

What should I get as a cover-up over a butterfly tattoo that is located on my lower right hip?

sunshine88

the butterfly tattoo is about 3 inches.

Answer
It is almost impossible to pre-design a cover up for something as detailed as a butterfly.

Your best bet is to go to all your local tattoo studios, study some of the artists work and find someone whose freehand work you like. Then give them free reign, most artists will tell you straight that they can't just stick something over the top of it, but if you do a little research first you could get a beautiful piece of art over it.

Lower hip should be an easier place to cover up though, lots of flowing lines that follow the contours of your hip and leg should camoflage pretty well. You could also consider getting it added to if you just want something different.

What does it represent when a woman has a tattoo on her ankle?

butterfly tattoo hip
on Tribal butterfly tattoos are delicate designs, but strong in symbolism ...

I've known two people with this. First was my sixth grade teacher, she had a butterfly tattooed there. Then it was my therapist. I recently saw hers, couldn't see what it was clearly. An answer from an old question said that it meant that they were a lesbian. Is that true? Or is it because they work in respectable places so they can't show tattoos anywhere else but the ankle?

Answer
It doesn't mean anything other than they like tattoos. I have one on my ankle and 5 other ones in places ranging from my hips, neck, and arm. None of them can be seen unless I want them to be seen.

How painfull on a scale from 0-10 would a tattoo be on the back of the neck be?

Becca Mull

I wanna get a butterfly tattoo on the back of my neck but want to know how painful it would be so i can prepare myself.

Answer
Probably a 6
I got a tattoo on my hip, while it's not the same place, the pain itself just feels more like a long paper cut, it feels more like a scratch or a slice, cuz the needle is moving to fast.
After a while it will get tender when they are wiping the blood off.
But it's nothing unbeartable. You'll be fine, just breathe and try to relax
:)
