First Time Tattoo, help and ideas?

Bookybell

I have been thinking about what I want to get as my first tattoo. At first I was thinking about getting a butterfly with a skull in it.But then I thought maybe for my first tattoo I should just get a blak tattoo and then later on if I want another tattoo to get a color tattoo.I was thinking of getting a phrase I like but I cant think of where to put it.I was also thinking of translating the phrase into latin , how do I make sure i get the right translation? As well as I was thinking of starting the phrase around my ankle bone and swirling it around to the side of my foot, but I heard that is one of the most painful places to get it done.So what would be some other places to place a phrase tattoo so that it is visible but can be covered easy?As well as I have a pretty good pain threshold but I really want to be prepared for what to expect so I dont freak out, can someone tell me what will happen, how much it will hurt and such? Thanks.

Answer
The most painful area is the rib cage.
BUT, for a phrase tattoo that could be covered easily
I would get it on the back of your arm... you could cover it
with long sleeves. Or on the back of your neck.

Rib cage tattoo idea , what do you think about this?

okay so to people that are how you say "normal" or think tattos should only be pretty butterflies and the like you may find this kind of stupid :D lmao

if link dosnt work copy and paste
kk so i had this idea for a tattoo it would be this (pic is of a t-shirt ) but the pic on the shirt is what would be inked on to my chest and ribs
http://www.8ball.co.uk/FancyDressT-shirts/RibCageTshirt.html

basicly it would be like having xray vission when you look at your chest :D

Answer
I dont really like this idea at all - Its going to be so painful & expensive
But then again its your body

Average cost for a rib cage and wrist tattoo?

Naomi

I'd like a short phrase on my wrist with my bday in roman numerals and a short quote on my rib cage with a small butterfly or cluster of stars. Neither with any color, both small and simple. Average cost for these?
By the way, if you know, how bad does a rib cage tattoo hurt? I have one on my lower back that huuurt really bad due to the bone. Would a rib cage tattoo hurt more?
How about the wrist tattoo?
Thanks!

Answer
The rib tattoo is probably the most uncomfortable place for a tattoo. Not only is the skin "thin" over there, but you also have the bones to deal with. It all depends on your pain tolerance too. The pain is worth the tattoo though. =)

The wrist shouldn't be too bad. I'll find out on Thursday. I've heard it's not too bad at all.

As for the price, it depends. If they charge per hour...then that's what it'll cost (depending on how long it takes). The wrist shouldn't take long at all. The ribs may take almost an hour...maybe even an hour or little more. My artist charges 150.00 per hour. So I'd say around...200.00. It depends though. I would say anywhere under 300.00. I doubt it'll get that high up. Good Luck. =)

Do you like back or rib tattoos?

bub #2 on

I have one tiny tattoo on my wrist and since having it done have wanted another.
I'm considering a lower back tattoo (tramp stamp) or a rib tattoo (down the side of my torso).
do you like these?
do you have any pictures of nice ones?
something feminine and maybe a little sexy without being too 'girly'

Answer
I have six butterflies. The first one is where a tramp stamp would be and they "fly" from there to my rib cage. They are pretty large, about 4 or 5 inches each. The lady who said that ribs hurt worst is lying. I fell asleep while he was doing my ribs and wanted to scream when he was doing the lowest butterfly. Neither looks trashy unless you get something that says "screw me" or something. Don't bother people that say that it does. Some jealous girl probably made up the whole tramp stamp name! I love the way vines look and I know a girl that got something similar to my style (from the lower back to ribs) that was words in the shape of a vine. It's very classy and you can't tell they are words until you get close. I love that idea and if you have something good enough to say, go for something like that. It's not pink flowers so it's not too girly but it is sexy and still feminine. She gets tons of compliments.Just google side tattoo and lower back tattoo to get ideas, then go from there.
Have fun and good luck.

I am going to be getting my daughters name tattooed most likely on the side of my rib cage or back.

A few things -

My daughters name is Leah
She is my first born
and I want to have her name with some sort of design around her name showing shes my first born or something very pretty (NOT BUTTERFLIES)

Just I need someone to show me some examples or something.

Answer
What about a design of her birth month flower, or the official state flower or bird of the state you live in? Or something relating to her zodiac sign?

Pain for a tattoo on my ribs?

Anonymous

I'm looking into getting a tattoo on my ribs, right beneath my left breast but on my sideish, If that made sense. I know its not going to be butterfly kisses and of course its going to hurt, but I just wanted to hear from people who have had a tattoo on their ribs, was it really painful? And if you have other tattoos, how does the pain rate compared to those? Everyone keeps telling me its the worst place to get a tattoo.

Thank you in advance!

Answer
the pain isn't that bad, i also have one on my calf (one of the least painful spots) and there wasn't that much pain difference, mines right on my rib cage, and the top is right under my breast, and yes that part hurt a lot in comparison, but its not unbearable, and it's worth it

I have a butterfly with some swirls inside the wings on my right rib cage. The butterfly is on its side. I love my tattoo but was contemplating adding some more design to it. Other than a flower, does anyone have any ideas about what I might add to my design?
