After a few seconds I want to know why they got those tattoos. If they said 'cause I thought they'd be sexy,' I'd instantly be turned off. It has to mean something to you. Tattoos are an expression of the artist who drew and colored it, and the person who the tattoo is on. The artwork becomes just ink and lines if it is meaningless.

Tattoo, where is a good tattoo parlour in Melbourne?

Questions to ask to achieve a good quality tattoo?

Answer
To achieve a great tattoo, ask for recommendations on an artist from people you see who have great tattoos. REALLY nice work is very obvious and people who have it are usually pleased to give you the name of the artist.

Once you get to an artist, ask to see a portfolio of work. They should produce a collection of photos that show tattoos both after they are freshly done and preferably (though not always) after they have healed some. If you are going in for a cover-up of an existing tattoo, then insist on seeing before and after photos.

Once you have seen this person's amazing work, present your idea to them. Show them the area you are considering putting this design, how big you would like it to be, what colors you were thinking of, etc. If you have pictures of the design (even if they are not exactly right) bring them in and explain what you are thinking of. If there are any changes to the picture, explain those as well.

Durring this process your artist will be making suggestions on size, color and placement as well. They have years of experience with the look and technical execution of tattoos, so hear them out. Many times a customer will come in and want a tattoo in a size that is just impossibly small. It is the artist's job to correct misconceptions like this and make suggestions that will work.

One of the best ways to get a unique tattoo is to let your artist draw up a design just for you. If you want a butterfly, don't just pick one off of the wall of the shop (unless you really truly love it just as it is). You can choose traits from several different pictures and explain what you like about each. Your artist will be able to assemble you a new piece of art that is just yours.

If you are a little fuzzy on what exactly it is you want, get a decent idea and then ask for suggestions. Tattoo artists love to work with a solid concept and then flesh it out themselves. For example, as long as you are sure you want a soldier-like pinup, they can do the rest for you.

Getting a quality tattoo is all about finding the right artist, checking out their work yourself, hearing out suggestions for improving your tattoo idea, and then taking proper care of your work while it heals.

As for a shop in your area, start asking the owners of good tattoos. Or you can get out the phone book and find the adresses of reputable shops. Stop in and check out the portfolios and chat up the artists. A great artist is always happy to show off his work to a potential client.

Help with tattoo design?

Jennifer

I lost my dad in October of last year. We had a lot of issues that we were working on at the time of his death...I have been planning a tattoo since then and am planning on the 1 year mark getting it! What i have decided to get are the words I forgive you on my back left shoulder blade...I found it on pinterest someone had done it because it was lyrics to a song and it had 4 butterflies. I wasn't planning on taking someone elses tattoo but was trying to get an idea. As soon as i saw the tattoo i knew it was what i was going to do i feel like it is my own in the sense of the meaning and I would like to do a different picture rather than butterflies. I am afraid of actual butterflies so it would seem weird to have them tattooed on me. Although in the picture it was beautiful. Since i have the meaning more in the text i am open to the picture that would look good with it. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

The only issue i have with putting something he was interested in on me is that it owuld make my tattoo very manly and I am not into that I want something that fits me too. He was interested in working on cars, mustangs(car), nascar, gb packers, stuff like that...All things I would never in a million years put on my body.
I also was thinking birds my other tattoo is a bird and I feel like it would look as if I am obsessed with birds which i am not... lol Maybe I am over thinking it but i want it to be perfect!

Answer
Hi the tattoo sounds great so far, hm well you could just get the words? or else like birds or a flower or a dragon fly theres loads of things, you dont have to get the things he likes but maybe what reminds you of him when you think of your dad what do you think of? And maybe work from that? Good luck :D

I really want to get a tattoo on my right foot, and I can not find a design that I like. I was thinking of some stars or flower. I would love to see some of your foot tattoos, or any suggestions would be great!

Answer
I love foot tattoos. They're really cute and easy to cover or show off. I think flowers or stars would be really cute. Go to http://www.tattoojohnny.com and put stars in the search box.

I like the first picture of pink flowers, the colorful butterflies in the middle of the second row and the stars on in the middle of the top row on the 4th page. I hope my ideas helped you.

Any ideas for a tattoo that represents inner beauty and being comfortable with yourself?

Q. I've been thinking about going to get a second tattoo, but i'm lost for ideas. I want something to represent inner beauty and being happy with exactly who you are. Either a quote or a symbol, nothing big. Any ideas please?

ps. don't give me any lectures about choosing your own tattoos and such, heard it all before lol.

Answer
Flowers are symbols of beauty. Butterflies can symbol rebirth.

This is a great site: http://www.vanishingtattoo.com/tattoo_symbol_design_index_flowers.htm I spent some time on it last night for ideas for my next tattoo.

Hey guys I have recently been looking for tattoo ideas and on one blog I notice a few negative comments from guys. I currently have 3 tattoos. A butterfly on my upper arm, roses from my hip to my thigh, and a swirly design on my shoulder. I like to think of these as very feminine tattoos. I would just like to know what is your opinion of tattoos on women?

Answer
There will be guys that love them, and guys that hate them. It is all a matter of personal preference. You can't please everyone all the time, so why try? I love tattoos on women, the more tattoos the better. Before I got my sleeve, I would gawk at and compliment women with visible tattoos. They are the ones that inspired me to decorate my own body. I find I get alot of male attention due to my tattoos. Before my sleeve, I was a plain Jane that never got male attention. After my sleeve, I had something beautiful and unique about me. They are a great conversation piece. Both men and women come up to me and strike up conversations about them. I even inspired my mother in law to get her first tattoo at age 55. I say get as many as you want. Some people buy pretty paintings and hang them in their houses. We buy pretty artwork and put it in our skins. Best of luck to you and happy inking!

Can anyone help me find a tattoo that can be seen in the "Miami Ink" opening credits?

The tat is on a girl in a pink bikini. Its located on the girls lower back and appears to be something tribal with a butterfly in the middle of her back. I've been looking everywhere and can't find that tattoo anywhere nor can I find anything similar. Help would be greatly appreciated.
