Tattoo Artists, what are your biggest pet peeves?

Is there anything that customers do that irritates you? How do you feel about small tattoos, or tattoos without any meaning? How do you feel about girly tattoos on hips, wrists, ankles (ex: flowers, butterflies, virtue words) Are there any types of tattoos that you would refuse to do or a customer that you would refuse to tattoo? I'm just really curious to know what you all think. Thanks!

Answer
I LOVE this question. SOOO much veal is annoying, but the most annoying things are based on stupidity. We HATE when people ask, how much is a tattoo? Why not ask how much is a red car? How big is a box? How the hell r we supposed to answer that? People who don't tip. U tip the person who brings food to ur table, we give u art for life! HATE scratchers. not because there stealing work, or some lame reason scratchers come up with. But because 99% of them r truely fucking IDIOTS. Me personally, I get so pissed about the questions they ask on here, how do I plug in my gun? Wat is the needle for? Y doesn't my ink stay in? I don't go buy a scalpel and claim Im a doctor. Calling machines "guns", there's no such thing as a tattoo gun. Trying to hagle prices. As far as tattoos themselves go, I personally won't to anything racist, or gang related. anything else I don't care, its ur body, I mahy advise against it, but i dont have to wear it. I'll refuse anybody I feel is offensive, either attitude, odor, appearrence, ect. i wont tatt u if ur obviously drunk or high. i know some big name artists only do big, elabriate pieces that show there talents but most shops and artists will do anysize tattoo, money is money lol. i also hate it friends expect free work, or tbe hook up for there new gf or something. she aint screwing me, if yah wanna look cool, pay ahead of time and ill pretend its free. ill do free tatts now and tjen, but itz my call, dont ask. most tattoo artists love there work, and love when they make someobe happy, nothing is like someone showing of ur tatt with pride. so basically, were like everyone else , we hate duschbags, dipshits, and dickheads lol

Navy Tattoo Policy

According to Navy policy, tattoos may not be sexually explicit, advocate discrimination or depict gang-related or racist material. Tattoos that are visible through the white uniform are not authorized, nor are those on the head, face or neck. A seaman can have a tattoo on his forearm; however, it cannot be larger than his closed hand. Like the other branches, the Navy can choose to separate a service member from the military if his tattoos do not align with policy.

Don't plan on getting the sleeve work done.

I have a neck tattoo of stars and and butterfly's it's not big at all and not visible when my hairs down .... And as well as a ambigram tattoo that says faith one way and hope the other war on my forearm which as well is in a visible spot ,I heard that I cannot have any visible tattoos at all ... Is that true or are they lenient on tattoos as long as they don't look gang related ..

Answer
Men must have a short hair cut so the hair is off the collar so you will not be able to have your hair down to hide the tattoo. Women must have their hair up so it is off the collar so they can not hide a neck tattoo either.

You had the money to get the stupid things, now spend the money and have them removed.

Can a gang member with tattoos and stuff join the army?

Q. I am not a gangster i am just asking

Answer
that depends. The rules are constantly changing. There are a lot of military people with tattoos.

The things they look at more closely:

Where is the tattoo? Face, hands, fore arms would have a harder time.

What is it a tattoo of? If it is racist, drug, or violent someone would have a much harder time.

How many tattoos? Does it all over the chest back and arms like a shirt? Is it small like a name?

Small tattoos like a Chinese character, eagle, flag, anchor (Navy), cross cannons, butterfly (females), and other stuff like that are very common and hardly looked at.

Now about being in a gang...that has problems of its own. Does the recruit have a criminal record? Are they active in the gang? Are they doing other stuff like drugs, burglaries, assaults, and gang type crimes. That will keep them out of the Army for sure. Tattoo or not.

If they have minor juvenile crimes like tagging or petty theft. They might get a waiver. They have to quit the gang.

Question about tattoos in the Marines?

Q. I have three tattoos. A Celtic cross on my back, a butterfly on my ankle, and a scorpion on my foot. I'm planning on joining the Marines soon. Will my tattoos be a problem?
Haha I figured I'd get a lot of crap about it. I was young and stupid when I got it though.
Yeah, I'm a girl.

Answer
Only offensive and gang related tattoos are disqualifying. You should be ok. You will get a lot of shit from your fellow Marines about that butterfly though lol.

Answer
put on a t shirt and some short shorts. If you can see a tatoo while wearing this your chances are not so good. And if you have them on your head, neck, etc. at all you will be denied no wavers. And you can only have reg earings no gages. If you have the smallest gages they wil make you wait until the hole seals and then you can go to bootcamp if they are any bigger than the starters they will not heal adn you will be denied opportunity to go to Bootcamp within the Marine Corps. Also about the tatoos if they are gang related or racist etc that kind of thing you also more than likely will be denied, if its some butterfly or whatever kind of deal you should be ok hahaha

Why do some people feel its ok to call people with tattoos and piercings trashy, gross, unintelligent Etc?

ToolGirl5-

I think its only makes them look ugly and trashy,i know they have the right to say what they want but it would be like if i said all non-tattooed people are trashy and stupid lol I mean why waste your time saying mean things to people...

I just don't get people that hate people with tattoos so much..
And i can't forget the "Only sluts get then."

People can just be so low class...

Answer
ignorance is bliss. we have tons of blessed ones it seems. we're called sluts, gang members, idiots, show offs. if a girl has something bigger than a dime-sized butterfly on her hip - she's a dyke, or a criminal, or a prostitute. how about the questions that are posted right here on Y!A : "why do ppl get tattoos, their so ugly!" (spelling preserved).
who the hell cares if you think they're ugly - you don't want any then don't get any! it;s like saying "man, why do people dye their hair red, it's so ugly" or "why do people tan. what idiots!"

you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything...
it's like me going to a Christian group and ask questions like "Why do you believe in this crap, you idiots?"
it's none of my business, if that's what they want to believe. as long as it's not being shoved up my throat. same with tattoos. opinions count when expressed nicely.

So if a chick decides she needs a tattoo and piercings, it's because she is now a druggy or a slut? Or both.?

Answer
Not normally.

Some gang cultures promote getting certain tattoo's to indicate that they have killed a certain number of people or achieved a certain rank within the social structure of the gang.

Mostly, people get them because they think they look good. I have quite a few piercings and some rather 'girly' tattoos (butterfly, cat, frog, triquetra, my name) and I got them because they're pretty! They lift my mood and are a constant reminder of the beauty of nature, of my identity and spirituality.

Why do some Americans consider tattoos to be "a permanent scar"...?

Fuckette

when other civilizations think of it is a beautiful art form? Is it because so many people get pointless crap like butterflies and tribal bands that don't mean anything to them tattooed by crappy tattoo artists? or something else?

Answer
Because we live in a society that has always had some messed up attitude about people/things/ races diffrent than the norm. The older the average american gets, usually the more "stuck up" they get. I haven't ever really understood it either. Not to mention too many people in this country believe that tat's = prison, or gangs, or whatever the news can make their simplistic minds think. Its horrible. And yes, its also sad that people take this art form and try to be like everyone else, making the same freakin tat over and over, never taking the time to personalize it . They're in it for the fad of it.
