I just got permission from my mother, to let me get this peircing. I'm only 12, but I want to change up my look. I've heard that getting this peircing done with a gun is "bad" because it damages more tissue in your ear. Is this true?I'm thinking I should just get it done with a needle. Does it hurt more with a needle or gun? Please awnser in detail! :D

Answer
What a piercing gun does is just shove a blunt object (the earring post) through your ear. It's traumatic for your body and can cause cartilage to collapse. The type of earring they use is also bad; the butterfly back traps dirt and bacteria and greatly increases the chance of infection. The places that use guns will probably give you some crap cleaning solution that's way too harsh on your ears, too. Guns also can't be sterilized and the people operating them have no real training in body piercing.

Definitely get it done with a needle at a tattoo/piercing shop by a body piercer who'll use the correct tools and start you with proper jewelry and good aftercare.

What is the backing of a nose stud like( and who puts it in)?

I Vale

I was thinking of this because I went to a piercing/tattoo shop today with a friend who was getting her ears done. I asked the person if they really put a cork in a persons nose so the needle doesn't go all the way through. (Read that online!) She said no, only inexperienced people do that. She'd just put the needle in, then the stud, and I'd be good to go. So, what are the backings of a nose stud like? Does the piercer have to stick their fingers up the persons nose to screw on the backing, or what?

Answer
Sometimes when you first have them done you can have a butterfly like the back of an earring put on, but I wouldn't really recommend it, it'll be sore to get on after just having it pierced. I've had mine pierced twice, and I've always just had the stud through and nothing on the back. Usually the studs are quite thick (or they are when using a gun anyway.) and they just stay in place. You have to twist them like an earring each day and that usually hurts a bit so it's not likely it'll fall out any time soon. If you were worried just put a plaster over it at night so it doesn't fall out. When it's healed you can get loads of different nose studs. Some are straight with a small ball on the end that you just push straight through. Some are curved or bent so you have to twist them through, and then obviously you've got rings as well. It's completely personal preference and you'll have to try them out to find which one you like. Personally I like the straight studs with the balls on the end because they don't feel uncomfortable and they don't come out as easy as the others. :)
