I think that tattoos are one of those decisions that should not be made on a spur of a moment. The object to be tattooed and the location on your body should be thought about for a lot time while you are researching a good, safe tattoo parlor.
I also do not have a lot of respect for tattoos that were gotten impulsively and have no real meaning for the person.
Tattoos started out as a way to mark major events in your life (big battles, marriage, children, etc), and I think it should remains that way.
I have one tattoo, on my ankle, that I thought about for three years before I had it done. The design has a lot of personal meaning to me and I haven't gotten sick of it two years later, and I don't think I will even into my old age. It represents a chapter of my life that I have survived and closed. I am currently working out the design for my next one - that I first thought of almost a year ago and probably won't get done for another year.
Not everyone shares my views on the seriousness behind tattoos. Regardless of viewpoints, getting a tattoo is a permanent thing and should be decided with the long term in mind (example: how are you going to feel at 70 with your tattoo of a butterfly on your stomach? It looked so sexy at 20 when it was peeking out of your low rise jeans but now it looks a lot more like a deformed caterpillar).

Hi i'm erica, im on my b.f.'s account cause they only let me ask 5 questions !! lol anyways.....what kind of tattoo do you have? i have a lot. i have a dragon on one arm to represent my birthday (chinese astrology), and a snake one the other arm (representing bad.) i have a cross on my wrist( representing good). i have symbols representing good and bad because there are both in this world and i know i have both in me. then i have "only god can judge me" in latin going down my neck and underneath there is a globe with just italy because im italian. then on my lower stomach i have 04/28/88 in roman numerals standing for my bday and on the other side i have the symbol of a taurus (not a bull.)
so what kind of tattoo do you have and what does it mean??

1 butterfly on ankle. tribal features, lots of color- just bcse i was 18yo and wanted one. and i love butterflies
#2 butterfly on back of shoulder, tons of color, designed by my mom who got the same done on her forarm with different coloring
#3 seahorse on my thigh, tons of color, for my dad to always have him near me
#4 whispy vine on my foot wrapping around my ankle bone, i'm adding another part of vine to wrap around the back of my ankle and up the ankle on the front
#5 3 quarter size butterflies on the top of my shoulder
for my past present and future
that should be it for now lol
oh when i marry and have kids i'll add small butterflies or flowers to the vine on my foot for each memeber of the family
