Question?
I just seen people with tattoos of butterflies on their back and i wondered if it meant something or if it didn't.
Answer
The meanings of tattoo's change over the years and vary between the different kinds og groups of people who like them. When I was younger, Birds and butterfly's meant you were free and didn't keep one steady boyfriend. To the bikers and rockers, it meant loose or slut, to the goth's black butterfly's meant seditive like sleep heroin...or drugs ect... They mean different things to different people I have both birds and butterflies. Ever hear that Tori Amos song "Butterflies?" It's about a woman who only sleeps with men who are not clingy or easily attached. So use your judgement and get what you want...If you do it for anyone else, you'll never do it at all.
My favorite tattoos are snowflakes... I just got them recently I got them because to me... They mean that no two are alike, I got three small ones and in the center of each one I have my 2 son's initials and my partners intials in the larger of the three.

Answer
You can never go wrong with Shakespeare.
"We will all laugh at gilded butterflies." meaning we will all laugh at those fallen from grace
"The devil can cite scripture for his purpose." meaning that scripture/religion can be used to justify anything, or alternatively liars will go to any length to prove a point
"The world is mine oyster!" meaning the world is yours for the taking
"All the world's a stage." this one is self explanatory
"To sleep, perchance to dream..." this quote is in one of Hamlet's speeches, he's contemplating suicide
"If music be the food of love, play on." Also self explanatory, from 12th night, i think
"Et tu, Brute?" meaning "You too, Brutus?" historically the final words of Caesar and in the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Caesar utters this after being stabbed 23 times by his friends, the final blow by his best friend/possible son, Brutus, which is why he basically gives up and dies.
Also from Caesar, "The evil that men do lives after them, The good is oft interred with their bones." meaning that what you do that is good will live on forever, where as the evil will be buried in your bones.
In brief, your personal history determines which of these pertains to you. Personally, if I were going to get a tattoo of a saying, I would get "OBEY THY FATHER AND MOTHER" down one side, or just "OBEY THY FATHER." or maybe "It is much easier for a man to destroy the light within himself than the darkness all around him." meaning that it's much easier to destroy the good in you than the evil throughout the world.
