Whats a good spot for a tattoo?

Jadis43

Hi im getting a tattoo soon but i want it somewhere that people will see it but not on the ankle or the wrist because the ankle i usually wear long pants and the wrist i find its more for names and all .. But i find getting a tattoo on the arm close to the shoulder is more for guys because i usually see guys with tattoos there and if its a girl its usually her whole arm other than just one tattoo.

So I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on where i should place my tattoo that would be noticeable to people.

Your going to have to go to a really good tattoo artist. Depending on how much black there is to the tattoo. More than likely you're going to have to get something dark, color wise, like purple, blue, dark maroon red, ect.

How to self tattoo? PLEASE ANSWERR?

anniee_x

I'm 14 in June and want a little tattoo in a secret type place, both of my parents have done tattoos themselves with indian ink, i was thinking of doing the same.. Where could i get indian ink from?
And please don't give me all the ''Don't do it it'll kill you s***''

And how could i self tattoo myself perhaps?
I only want a little one in a place not many people will see, like my wrist or hip.

Answer
Ok, chances are that it will not "kill you". Chances are also pretty high that the outcome will not make you very happy. But that aside......
Your best chances for a decent home made tattoo would involve some measure of success in obtaining a tattoo needle. Depending on where you live, that could prove almost impossible. Lets just figure on that NOT happening. Tattoo needles are made up of a needle bar with a loop in one end to attach to the machine. A cluster of actual needles are then soldered to the end of that bar with SILVER SOLDER,,,, containing NO LEAD.. that is very important. The needles are about 1/2 inch long and vary greatly in the shape of their points. Learn about them online. Features of interest are the "Shank", "Heel" and "Texture... these needles are actually "Entomolgy pins", you know.. the pins used to pin butterflies to a board for a butterfly collection. Bug collectors or entomology websites may offer them.
For a small tattoo with crips detail (*ahem*) you will want a relatively long shank / heeled pin with a medium to long taper. Yo do NOT want the pins to be the smoothest available as they will tend to not keep the ink adhered to them as well as the rougher ones. A single pin will drive you a bit nuts since the amount of ink trapped on the needle will be miniscule. What you want to achieve is a tight cluster of at least three pins... they must be even at the tip of the cluster to avoid cutting the skin... and they must must, must be as perfectly parallel as possible and almost universally requires an expensive needle jig and lots and lots of practice. If they tend to "fan out" your lines will be fuzzy and or blurry at best. This is fine if you are shading..but definitely NOT ok for lining.
Once you have your needle built you will need something to drive it. The hand stitchd "poke and hope" method is like buying a lottery ticket.. sure "lightning could strike" , but it is not very likely. More likely that your tattoo is gonna suck big time. SO.. you will need a drive device.. ( I have personally spent thousands in search of a machine that will drive the needle STRAIGHT in and out..without any rotating wobbling around in the tube) the best device IMHO is a tattoo machine made by Mr. Danny Fowler.. the "Time Machine"..expect to pay around $250 for this machine though. Barring a Time Machine, you will likely end up with some type of electric motor that has a spinning shaft. Beware... a rotary device has built in "run out" issues..the needle IS going to wobble in the tube..it is just a matter of "how much". Now you need a "tube"..something attached to the drive to contain the needle and allow you a place to hold it while you tattoo. Perhaps a small 1/4" x5" tube of stainless steel from a hardware store woud suffice. Once you have your needle and tube... put them in a pressure cooker with a couple of cups of distilled water and cook em for at least 60 minutes at 300 degrees.A spore tested autoclave is the benchmark preference for sterilizing, but Im gonna bet you dont have one.... This time / temp combination will allow time for warm up and sufficeint time / pressure / heat to penetrate any and all spores that could be present. Wash your hands thoroughly before retrieving the needle and tube with sterile forceps.... place them on a sterile surface... like a surgical dressing from Wal Mart.
Your India Ink.. not "Indian ink".. is the next step. Most art supply stores carry it. They may give you a hard time if you try to buy it, but that is part of it. There are colored India inks...never seen them used in a tattoo though, might not do so well. The black India ink is most commonly used. But I gotta say here and now that that stuff is relative garbage for tattooing. It is virtually guarenteed to turn greenish blue in a relativel short period of time. It does not have polymer in it so it will disperse into the surrounding skin and turn blurry not matter how good a job you may do of the actual tattooing. The ink needs to be sterile so dont mess with it until you begin. Shake it up well and dip the needle into it. A surgical scribe or surgical marker / pen will help you create a design that will be symmetrical and well rendered before you start with a needle. Shave the hair off of the area to be tattooed and scrub the whole area as well as the surrounding skin for several inches away with tincture of green soap and water. Dry it off with a sterile surgical dressing and thats it... now you have to decide... are you really gonna do this? There is still time to allow reason to prevail. If you are determined.....
I would suggest that you go with the hip instead of the wrist. It would be easier to keep private. Go small with the tattoo..easier to fix or cover up later when... not "if" you decide this was a huge mistake.
While I do NOT endorse what you are contemplating, I have answered in pretty good detail the what and how to getting the job done, ..... honestly and completely. I seri

diy tattoo gone wrong?

aloe galap

i have my own machine and have been messing around with it getting a feel for it.do not comment about how tattooing without an apprenticeship is wrong. i know and i don't care because i am not trying to tattoo people or be paid as an artist. years from now i would love to and i would gladly give up all the info i think i know and learn the craft properly from a professional but for now im a crusty girl who has no problem f-ing up and trying again. i boil and alcohol bathe everything and only use new sealed needles because i at least know that much. i am openly admitting i do not know what i am doing, i am aware of the repercussions and i am still gonna mess around with it because i like exploring and experimenting with my body so no lectures please.

anyways so far i have redone an old small stick n poke on my ankle with an addition above it and its healing well. there is another small one that i overworked a bit, the outline is good but some ink came up with the shading so i am giving it vitamin e rich avocado oil regularly and letting it heal up. the most recent one i have done is a bit bigger and only about 1/3 of the ink will end up staying. the rest is light pink slightly shiny scarring. i realized i didn't set up the machine quite right so i ended up overworking it for no good reason. it sucks and its in a sucky spot but oh well i will live. i want to know how long i should wait to go back and do it better? any tips on tuning the machine and makin sure its tuned properly. and how i should approach lightly scarred skin. and i would love to hear as many tips as possible without being lectured that i should go to a professional because if you feel inclined to do that you should know im an idiot and im gonna do it myself anyways and unless i have to cut my arm off(which i wont because i make sure my stuff is clean throughout the whole process) i wont regret having tried to do it myself even if it permanently looks like crap so level with me. i would especially love to hear from other self taught artist who can give me tips on how to teach myself correctly but useful information form anyone is greatly welcomed
hahahahahaha random strangers thinking they know my life or whether an apprenticeship is possible for me right now. i respect tattooing as an art don't be too arrogant to respect diy culture as a way of life braaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Answer
I am a tattoo apprentice and have also tattooed myself, and believe me I know the feeling. My first tattoo on real skin was on my own hand, visible to everyone. It was a small black butterfly, and I totally overdid it. It scabbed badly and the ink from the middle of the tattoo fell out completely and scarred, so much so that it looked as if I had only done an outline. I waited about 4 weeks before re-doing mine, and just took a lot less time shading in the middle. Good luck! I have done many more on myself and they get a lot better!

Tattoo designs...................?

Bekah! (:

I want to create a new tattoo. Unique.

It's going to go from just below my ribs, down to the edge of my jeans! ^_^

It's 13cm.

So, I want some vague ideas I could build on..

I've got a few months or so, before I plan on getting the tattoo. :P

So, it can be colour or black, it doesn't bother me...

But I want it to be unique... ^_^

Feel free to ask questions/for information.
It doesn't HAVE to be that big, obviously. I'm not bothered.

And as for the pain, I have a tattoo on my hip, and I dealt with that well ^^

Soo, yeah.
BTW, the tattoo I currently have, is on my right hip, this new one is going on the left side. :P
I was just asking for vague ideas. o_o

Answer
you are not going to find unique tattoos on Yahoo Answers
and it's my opinion that if you have to ask other people what you should get, you shouldn't be getting a tattoo

as for the pain, I'm not saying you can't take it....but rib tattoo pain is a special kind of beast.

good luck with whatever YOU decide on

Update:
I understand what you're asking for
and I think it's ridiculous
regardless, I should have at least answered your question, so here it goes:
get a random pattern of hearts, stars, butterflies, asian symbols, tribal, flowers, and maybe a music note or two.

Butterfly Tattoo?

Kim

I want to get a small tattoo of a butterfly between my shoulders, right under my neck but I cant find a good picture of something of what I want. I've tried google. can anyone help me? know any websites where i can look at some?

Answer
They are a pretty common tattoo....which is why I went in an had my artist customize one up for me. Mine has pictures in it's wings instead of going for a typical butterfly. Everyone comments on how different mine is.

Why do women prefer butterfly tattoos?

warrior

Answer
I recently got a butterfly tattooed on the back of my right shoulder. I got it not because its pretty but because it means something to me. I have been through a lot of stuff and i have come out a different person for the better. The butterfly that i have for me symbolises transformation and change. It also means that i have come out stronger but still delicate like a butterfly.

In general, i think most women get butterfly's because they are feminine and pretty to look at but women get butterfly's for different reasons. :)

Hope this helps :)

I think you should get a unique design no one else will probably have. Choose something from an experience you've had, or even put your favorite slogan/quote.

Need help finding heart tattoo designs?

OhSnap

I want a heart with a banner around it. Just a heart and a banner. No flames, thorns, wings, etc. I'd like it to look artistic, no simple symmetrical heart. But im having trouble finding one on google images. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Ok I had this problem when I wanted a butterfly with a celtic scroll - I printed several off, then I sketched my own, it was a rubbish sketch - but then i went to the tattooist and explained the design - he said come back tomorrow - I came back - his lovely arty wife had redrawn my design.

It was perfect. With the colours worked out and everything!

AND - he tore up the design once he tattooed me..

So you can be individual as long as you get a great tattoist! If they can't help then I would not go to them - don't let them free style on your skin - get the design first.

He had the drawing on special paper and as I agreed it was correct he then transferred the drawing to my skin.

Cool eh!

I´m thinking of getting a small tattoo?

Cosmetolog

This is my first tattoo. I wanted something like a small butterfly on my lower belly. Now does this area hurt a lot? How do you care for the tattoo afterwards and how long until it is "presentable"? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
I think you should NOT get a butterfly tattoo, since it will result in you having some ugly cartoon inked PERMANENTLY into your body for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. It will never be "presentable"--people will ALWAYS look at you with loathing if you have a tattoo. I strongly urge you to reconsider getting tattooed. Your body is clean now, and not profaned by any graffiti, but that will change forever if you pay some tattoo predator to forever ruin your body with a tattoo. You have lasted this long without tattoo, do not cave to the pressure from lesser people or a sick society and take that fatal step. Everything will change for you, for the worse, after you get that first tattoo. The true cost of a tattoo is a lifetime of regret. There is an 80% chance you will regret it in your lifetime. Many people will look at you with disgust, for tattoos are offensive to many, many people. Your chances of getting a good job will be greatly diminishedâmost companies will not hire you since your tattoo will be seen as offensive to other workers. There is nothing good about a tattoo. A tattoo is little better than a cartoonâyou canât get a good quality drawing on the human skin. It will deface your body like ugly graffiti defaces a public building. Tattoos are an urban blight. They are ugly, like graffiti. Like graffiti, they lower the quality of the environment. Tattoos lower the quality of life, for everyone who has to see their ugliness. I donât like the whole concept of tattooing, the way these hideous cartoons are inked into the flesh of people through bloodletting and pain; to me they are a dark and evil art. Tattoos are closely linked to other forms of self harm, like cutting, piercing, drug use, etc.; they are hand-in-glove with these destructive behaviors. I donât like the way evil people encourage our vulnerable children to get tattooed, so they can make money off of them. They do not care that they are causing harm. And yet, these evil ones, these tattoo predators, are even admired by their deceived victims. Young people are fooled into wanting tattoos by degenerate Hollywood and the media. Kids think tattoos are cool and cutting edge, but over time, they wind up hating their tattoos. Far worse, they wind up hating themselves. I donât like that parents and older people are so afraid of being disliked that they say nothing against tattoos, even though they know better. Worse, some completely abandon their responsibility to provide sound guidance and even encourage the young ones to get tattooed. . As far as tattoos being âartâ, that is garbage. A tattoo is NOT "a work of art". The human body is not a canvas and the abusers and mutilators who desecrate it are not artists. Most of their so called "art" is little better than comic book drawings. The majority of western people get tattooed when young and their decision making process is not yet matured. They need to be very careful in making important, permanent decisions. The reasons young people get tattooed are not mature (i.e. they want people to notice them, they want to pretentiously âhonorâ someone in a way that will attract notice, they want to pretentiously present some âdeepâ quotation on their skin in the hope that people will think they too are âdeepâ, they are rebelling against their parents or society, they are conforming to what they think are social norms, they are unable to see ahead and view the negative results of their actions, et . More and more young people are buying into this Hollywood lie that tattoos are a cutting edge way to âexpressâ yourself. But that is so not true. You should express yourself with your words and actions, not by inking graffiti onto your living flesh. I oppose the many predators and enablers here, who encourage young people to abandon decency and live self indulgent and destructive lives. Know there is no such thing as a tattoo "artist"--there are only tattoo predators who seek to hurt you and take your money. The tattoo industry is full of abuse and negligence. Tattoo removal is a growth industry. Tattoo lawsuits are soaring due to the harm caused by the tattoo predators who abuse the young people who mistakenly trust them. If you were tattooed as a minor or while intoxicated, take the tattoo parlor and the tattoo predator who ruined your body to court. Make them pay for what they have done to you. God bless you. Young people-- stay in school, do your best there, avoid drinking, drugs, tattoos and piercings, and avoid those who have them. Go to college, study science, mathematics, or business, and avoid liberal arts, unless you are wealthy and do not have to support yourself and your family.

how much would a full back tattoo of butterflies and flowers cost?

Darrin

Answer
haha~ I love the price quotes above!
I'm thinking $9,857 at least, for a quality job.

Really, there is no way on earth that any of us can answer this question.
You need to find references (pictures, photos, drawings, paintings etc. ) and take them to your tattoo artist of choice, and they will tell you a quote that will actually have bearing on the tattoo you may be getting.

luck~

Can someone please answer a couple questions about tattoo please?

Nikki 305

So before people say anything, I'm not getting the tattoo until I am 18, which is in two months. I been wanting a tattoo for a few years now, even though my parents would kill me if they found out. Anyways I'm first going to show you the tattoo I want so that you can answer my questions.
http://www.tattoobite.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/women-butterfly-tiger-tattoos-designs.jpg
Okay so the first question would be how much money should that cost?
The next one is can the tattoo artist make it just like that, because I have seen other images and I don't like them like I like that one because it looks realistic.
Also, I want to put it on my lower back center. Is that a good spot, and how is that area for tattooing when it comes to pain?
(I don't want the flowers around the butterfly, I just want the Tiger Butterfly).
Thanks for answering my questions. (:
Actually I do want the flowers there I'm just not sure about it because if you look at the picture, the girl's tattoo is slanted and i want mine going straight across my lower back (horizontally). So if you think it would look good going straight across from the wings (one side of the wings to the other) let me know cause I would do that, instead of it going slanted vertically.

Answer
Without color & light shading at the shop I go to that would be around $150-200, price usually depends on the shop & quality of the artist's work. I can't give a price for color because I have black ink.

The lower back is a large area & shading hurts like a mother. Areas with little fat, or are bone-y like your feet, knees, wrist, etc. usually hurt more than other places. Some people say the opposite, I guess it depends on you.

Like you, I thought over the idea of getting a tattoo for years, to me the pain was worth it.

A talented tattoo artist can make that easily, they can alter it too if you want to make it unique.

Are there any Barbie dolls that got banned/ heavily criticized for being inappropriate in some way?

A Sentence

Please stick to actual Barbie dolls. It would also be helpful if anyone could give me a link to some established Barbie lists etc. or anything that is bad about Barbies :)

Answer
Well, it looks like you are going to do a negative report for school on how Barbie makes girls have body issues...and I definitely don't support that, but I am bored so here goes:

1. Barbie was modeled after the Bild Lili doll, which was originally a promiscous and scantily clad "German sex doll". It was not a sex doll, it was a doll that was dressed promiscuously and was predominantly coveted by men, but nonetheless this raised some controversy!

2. Teen Talk Barbie was heavily persecuted for declaring that "Math is hard!" She wasn't banned or taken off the shelves, but she is what molded the perception that Barbie is a ditzy bimbo, and Mattel has been trying to fight that stereotype ever since.

3. Then there was the Lingerie Silkstone Barbie. This Barbie is designed and targeted toward adut collectors, and was not advertized in mainstream media, however that didn't stop one mom from buying this doll for her daughter, and THEN complaining that it was too scantily clad for her daughter to play with. This series of dolls is dressed literally in lingerie, very skimpy gorgeous lingerie including garter belts with straps and high heeled shoes. They have since replaced the lingerie silkstones with "Pajama Silkstones" which also features dolls in lingerie, only now they are covered by a somewhat modest sheer housecoat.

4. Butterfly Art Barbie actually WAS banned and pulled off the shelves. Parents thought a doll sporting short jean skirts, a crocheted top, and a permanent tattoo created a negative image for little girls. Maybe if it was a tattoo of a naked woman or a flaming 666, I would agree, however a very small tribal design featuring a heart and butterfly doesn't seem so bad to me. They pulled these dolls from the shelves.

5. Oreo Barbie was also critisized, as another user mentioned, so I will leave that one out.

6. Barbie Basic was next... A line of dolls featuring all different styles of "little black dress" for which you could purchase accessorypacks. People were outraged that a Barbie doll from that line was wearing a dress with a waist-deep plunging neckline! This was no worse than anything your child would see on television. This was a mattel representation of a red-carpet dress, and was also targeted toward adult collectors. This was not pulled from shelves, but was and still is being critisized by concerned parents who don't know how to read, everywhere.

Barbie is no stranger to controversy, however I ask that you consider the positive effects that Barbie dolls have on little girls as well. She is completely self sufficient, a self-made millionaire with several houses, vehicles, and even some aircraft! She has had almost every profession known to man, including astronaught and presidential candidate. She is years ahead. She doesn't rely on a man for anything, and she left Ken after 45 years without a wedding proposal! She loves her family, especially her little sisters, and she loves animals. As long as parents teach their children that Barbie is a toy and not a real person, the "plastic princess" effect shouldn't eb an issue!

I Am Legend Alt. Ending?

Austin

My friend showed me the regular ending but then i watched the alt. ending. In the Alt. ending the zombies leader makes a butterfly on the glass then lifted up the "cured" woman's arm which had a butterfly on it. That made me think, was the leader Marley, or was the woman wills wife? I know there was the helicopter scene but it never actually showed the helicopter crashing and maybe they had survived and turned into the zombies. This is just all a conspiracy and also in the regular end, Will sacrafices himself and gives Anna the cure, what happens after Anna and Ethan get to Vermont. And in the Alt. ending what happens, do they get to vermont and what happend with the disease??

Answer
Wait for
I am Legend 2
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1167498/

Neville draws up a syringeful of the female's blood and gives it to Anna with instructions that she get it to the survivors' colony so that the antidote compound can be extracted from the blood and made into a cure. The next day, Anna and Ethan leave Manhattan and drive to the survivors' colony in Vermont. The survivors welcome them, and Anna hands them the antidote.

Info on the butterfly thing
Butterflies show up in a number of places in the movie. The first butterfly is when Neville's daughter Marley forms one with her hands as the family drives to the helicopter to get out of Manhattan. She says something like "Look, Daddy, it's a butterfly." A bit later, Sam is chasing a butterfly in the field where Neville is picking corn, and Neville drives by a faded sign that features a butterfly and the logo: God still loves you. Towards the end of the movie, some people see a butterfly shape in the cracked Plexiglas when the Alpha male keeps butting his head against it and/or a butterfly smeared on the Plexiglas with the Alpha male's blood. Neville then looks at Anna's neck and sees a butterfly tattooed on it, remembers Marley's words, and decides that it's a sign from God. In the original ending, there was a butterfly on the Alpha female, and people have interpreted the butterfly on the Plexiglas as a sign that the Alpha male is smearing a butterfly on the glass in order to tell Neville that he wants the Alpha female with the butterfly tattoo.

Name the movie?!? Island situation, stuck on trying to get off!!?

U guys did such a good job last time naming the movie theres another one I can't remember the name put remeber the movie sort of!!

I think it has the guy from jacobs ladder in it (main guy), and he also in something redemption, and this movie too.
He's on an isalnd, that I think is a prison but there just living in huts and stuff, and they grow there own food etc. and theres a part where a guy is sitting on a cliff timing the waves to jump off and be carried off by the sea without being killed, and it seems like it was set in the 20's/ 40's time?

Any ideas!??!!

Answer
Papillon (1973)
starring Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman, Victor Jory, Anthony Zerbe, Don Gordon, Bill Mumy, William Smithers, Vic Tayback, Mills Watson
IMDB synopsis:
Based on the true story of Henri Charriere, also known as Papillon~French for "butterfly". (He even sports a large tattoo of a butterfly). A petty criminal, Papillon is wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in a French penal colony in Guiane (French Guiana, South America). Papillon is determined to escape, but attempt after attempt meets with difficulty, resulting in eventual recapture. He continues his attempts to escape despite incarcerations in solitary confinement as punishment.
TRIVIA:
Dustin Hoffman had to wear contact lens so that he could see correctly through the thick glasses he had to wear. He based his character on the movie's screenwriter, Dalton Trumbo, particularly his withdrawn and shy mannerisms that had inspired Hoffman when meeting the writer for the first time.

Hoffman's then-wife, Anne Byrne Hoffman, plays his wife in this movie and is the first person to utter any words of dialogue in the opening sequence.

Although billed as a true story, the French in French Guiana claim that much of the story of Henri "Papillon" Charriere is fabricated. Papillon, who was only 25 at the time, was documented to have been incarcerated in Saint Laurent and may have escaped from there, but he never served any time on the Devil's Islands, now known as Iles du Salut or Salvation Islands. The book and movie both present Devil's Island as having rocky cliffs, when, in fact, though the entire island is rocky, it gently slopes into the surrounding sea.

I can't find verification about timing waves. Did he use a sort of coconut raft? I'm fairly certain that the film you're describing is "Papillon". I'm not sure how much resemblance there is between Steve McQueen and Tim Robbins though; they're rather far apart in resemblance. So, this might not be the one.

What should I get as a cover-up over a butterfly tattoo that is located on my lower right hip?

sunshine88

the butterfly tattoo is about 3 inches.

Answer
It is almost impossible to pre-design a cover up for something as detailed as a butterfly.

Your best bet is to go to all your local tattoo studios, study some of the artists work and find someone whose freehand work you like. Then give them free reign, most artists will tell you straight that they can't just stick something over the top of it, but if you do a little research first you could get a beautiful piece of art over it.

Lower hip should be an easier place to cover up though, lots of flowing lines that follow the contours of your hip and leg should camoflage pretty well. You could also consider getting it added to if you just want something different.

What kind of tattoo designs do you have mind?

Miguel...

I'm on way to getting back into drawing. I was very good and focused on it for most of my life but it came to a point that I didn't have time to draw which sucked. So I'm trying to start by doing some peopls tattoo designs. I'm not going to steal them or anything, I just want to get some ideas flowing.
Thanks. I'm a little rough with portraits still so

Answer
I have a name and a rose on my back and also a rosary bead cross as well. I have interlocking hearts with Samoan patterns around it (reps my fiance and his family) and writing above and under it. I am planning on getting "faith" written on my wrist and hope on my other wrist. I want another cross with a rose intertwining on it on my inner arm. I want butterflies going up my back with words for each one repping my family AND a RIP tattoo for my Dad.

My grandma, mom, sister and I want to get a generational tattoo. We just aren't sure what to get, any ideas?

Sabrina

We don't want anything very big because we are most likely all going to get the tattoo at different spots. We were looking at a butterfly tattoo but we aren't sure. Any ideas or pictures you have would be great!!! Thanks! :)

Answer
Do some research and maybe you can find an image of a family crest.

I almost got a tattoo of the star signs (aries aquarius etc) of all the members of my family small enough that I could add to it in the futute if my family grew.

Or maybe a tree (ie: family tree) but you could have an image that represents each member of the family. For example I am obsessed with shoes so there could be a shoe hanging off my branch.

Anything that you could add too would be nice since you may someday have children and wish to add them to it.

Does WHITE INK show up on DARK INK?

Juel

Can white be tattooed over dark ink to be made lighter and to make highlights?

Answer
It really depends on the artist and the inks. I would recommend checking out several high-end, health-licensed & autoclave-using tattoo salons and going through their books where most keep pictures of all the tattoos they have performed with both before healing and after healed pictures. This will give you some idea as to how well the tattoo will hold up and how it will look. You will want a skilled artist with the best inks available to do something with white over a dark color.

I say this because I have a purple triquetra with black lining but the coloring inside is purple with lavender vines (actual lavender as in lavender planted in a yard or around a garden gate as it represents health; I chose it b/c I have Lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's disease along with a retinal disease & recently learned I have inflammation of the corneas due to the Sjogren's that requires me to use 2 optic drops daily to reduce the inflammation in order to prevent corneal abrasions, which will scar if not treated early and it will prevent me from being able to at least have a shot at donating my corneas at my death so someone else can have what I am losing and that is the gift of sight). The lavender vines that fall down the side of my wrist in sort of an open bracelet (I haven't chosen a design for the back yet and I won't have the bracelet completed until I reach that decision then I can have the tat brightened again with updated ink b/c they do fade after time, esp when using sugar scrubs to remove dry skin in order to keep aging skin appearing youthful, pliable, and taunt but if you use sugar scrubs, DO NOT USE THEM OVER YOUR TATTOOS AS THEY WILL LITERALLY REMOVE THEM OVER TIME... Just gently wash the tattooed areas with a nice heavy moisturizing bath soap like from LUSH or Bath & Body Works; I prefer Lush b/c their products are all made fresh and they have a large selection of organic soaps that don't have "soap" in them but they do have cleansers but the non-drying type. Soap in and of itself that is bought at the grocery store or your department stores vs the boutiques have drying soap in it and it causes the skin to appear dull and lack of luster whereas the non-soap cleaner for skin from boutiques mentioned above can clean skin while leaving lots of moisture, which is great for tattoos and for your skin in general especially in winter months when your skin dries out from the cold outside & indoor heat)

Be sure to go over the tattoo artists' books and check out the quality. If possible, ask for references and even meet and view the tattoos of other clients with tattoos of various stages of age say from initial ink to long-term as in several years or so after the initial ink was done. This will give you a better idea of quality. The higher the quality, the higher the cost but when it comes to tattoos, spare no expense because you will be living with this tattoo for a long time and if you don't like it you will have wasted money, time, and the emotional upset not to mention the possibility of the costs of having it removed if another artist cannot adequately repair and beautify the initial tattoo.

Btw, I LOVE THE DOVE! It's beautiful. Are you considering it? If so, it is literally beautiful. I am considering a few other tattoos including the Om symbol, a Tibetan prayer, and the purple butterfly (albeit an intricate custom design) to represent my fight with lupus.

Both of our girls are hoping to have the same tattoo but maybe in a different area than mine when the youngest is older and the oldest has extra to spend on another tattoo. Our oldest has 2 tats already, which didn't set well with her dad but then again mine didn't set well with him either but he got over it b/c I let him know it wasn't his body and he had no say in the matter, the end, period and it was the last he said about it. LOL!

The white that is added into the lavender & vines in my tattoo and the white in my daughter's one tattoo turned out well but please know we use a high-end, highly talented, & well-known artist who does standard as well as custom designs. He draws out the designs for custom jobs and then inks them freehand from the drawing after we tweak out what we want and how we want it before the inking is even remotely time to begin.

What flower goes with a butterfly tattoo?

angel g

I'm getting a pink butterfly tattoo on my birthday at the end of this month, and I'm looking for a pretty flower to go with it. I do not like roses. I was thinking about the cherry blossom flower but that's also pink and I just think the tattoo would be too much pink. The way the butterfly is positioned looks like it's landing on something (side view).

I was also thinking of putting some vines or swirls around the butterfly and flower.

Please let me know what you think or send me some pictures of good ideas for my tattoo.

I've googled and bing'd so much for the past week and I just cannot find any design I like.

Answer
What about Calla lilies which has many colors but I would white or pink (its mixed with white so not totally pink)

Pink daisy, just get one with different shade of pink from the butterfly
http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium/pink-daisy-with-raindrops-carol-groecar.jpg

Or a pink Zinnia
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Monarch_Butterfly_Pink_Zinnia_1800px.jpg

Actually orange flower should be nice with pink butterfly if you like it. Imagine the flower is orange and the butterfly is pink
http://www.aefraser.com/blog/july08/orange_butterfly_4.jpg

Otherwise a blue Iris should be nice with pink too.
http://gardenpartyflowers.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/the-blue-iris-1.jpg

I don't which position of the flower will be the best because I didn't get to see the butterfly and I am not a tattooist so better that you discuss with him/her when you made up your mind on the flower to do.

Answer
Aw, I really want a tattoo done! :P

The third and fourth ones are lovely!

The lily (second one) was simple and cute enough but a bit boring.
The first one's nice too, and I love the swirls, makes the tattoo even more interesting, but the third or fourth ones caught my eye.

If I were you, I'd love to have three butterflies :)
But really, it kinda depends on where you're gonna get it done.

OK so I am planning on getting a tattoo on my shoulder I know a basic idea of what I want, just wanted to know if you have any ideas how to make it unique, OK so it would be the infinity sign with the word dream in it. I saw one that has birds flying away from it, which I thought was cute but im not to found of the birds so if you have any ideas or suggestions it would be appreciated.

Answer
Hey doll , welp not to put your tattoo down but i have seen millions of girls with that tattoo already so i understand why you want to make it unique . How about you find a tattoo that actually has some meaning to you ? Something symbolic . For example my mothers favorite flowers are orchids , so i want to get orchids tattooed on me . If the infinity tattoo with the word dream in it has a meaning for you or significance then awsome ! If not , then awesome too , i just think it would be better if it had meaning . You want something you won't regret when your 80 years old ! How about you get something like " keep on dreaming " in beautiful cursive on your upper shoulder with some butterflies flying away from it instead of birds. I dont know if you know about Jenny rivera , but her symbol was the butterfly because of how it transforms . Dreams transform from nothing into something beautiful , the way butterflies go from caterpillars on the ground .. To beauties flying with the wind .. Like a dream right ? So why not ? Orrrr ... You can go along with the infinity sign thing and have butterflies flying away from it . Up to you ! Good luck i hope it comes out gorgeous !

What are some symbols that stand for strength and overcoming fear?

JustASmall

I'm helping a friend design a tattoo and he wants one that, everytime he looks at it, makes him feel stronger as a person. Something that has to do with overcoming fears and makes you stronger. Shoot me all your ideas, we're both pretty open to any ideas! Thanks!

Answer
Phoenix. I've seen some really amazing phoenix tattoos. They're a little overdone, but you can make them so unique to you personally that it doesn't really matter...unlike butterflies and flowers and Chinese symbols..ugh.

If you're not sure what a phoenix is, look it up. It's like this creature that's rising up from the flames, emerging stronger and alive. I don't really know the whole story though.

im planning on getting 3 small (about 1 1/2 - 2 in. in diameter) butterfly tattoos my torso. im thinking of simply sticking to black, but i would like to have greens and purples if possible.
your time is valued, thanks!

Answer
Maybe think about just getting a black and gray tattoo. I know it doesn't sound like much, but in the long run - often times they look better on your skin tone. You're lucky to have such pretty skin, and with a color tattoo, the color will show up, because the ink soaks into your skin, but a black tattoo would show up and look nicer and fresher.

If you really want to go with color, I think red would be one that would show up pretty good.

What do you guys think about inner thigh tattoos?

lachatnoir

don't answer with "very nice when you're 80" please.
i was considering getting a black and blue butterfly tattoo on my left inner thigh to represent Angel Sanctuary, mirroring Belial's tattoo. Does it look ok there? I notice that it is quite a fatty area. Is it an area prone to fast tattoo detorioration?
thanks

Answer
it sounds like it would hurt since thats a sensitive area.
if the tat means somethin to you, then its ok to get it, and its not true that you should get it where everyone can see it. you can get it for yourself and youll know you only be sharin it with someone u care about.. or care enough about to let them look there.
one other thing, the butterfly to some people (especially if you get it there) would represent you as a whore. no offense. butterflies wit their wings always open (legs) goin from flower to flower (dif men)

What do tattoo artists think of doing lower back tattoos?

real butterfly tattoos pictures designs ideas

real butterfly tattoos pictures designs ideas image

Michelle C

So, I'm curious what tattoo artists think about doing lower back tattoos? Are you sick of doing them? Do you think they are dumb? I really want one that has a lot of meaning to me personally and I'm not the stereotypical "tramp stamp" girl. Does it make a difference if the tattoo is meaningful and not "just because?"

I'm 30 years old and stay fit. I go to a gym and just finished running my first half marathon back in November. I have been married 5 years and with my husband a total of 8 years. I have a masters degree and work as an accountant and plan to sit for the CPA exam within the next year. I'm telling you all this first of all to show you that I am not your stereotypical lower back tattoo candidate. My husband thinks that it will look really good and he has been encouraging me to "just do it". So, I did my research and the first artist was very dismissive, but the 2nd one took my idea and gave it a twist and made it completely original and unique for just me and I absolutely love it!!!!

First off, There will be a red roses in the design. I know that roses are typical, but "believe it or not" it has significance to me and there was a reason I chose this. The rose itself is in honor of my grandmother who died in January. She was known for her green thumb and before she died she wanted to smell a real rose. So, my church contacted a rose greenery down in Texas and they sent her a rose bush for free and my dad took a picture of her sitting next to it. That was the last picture taken of her before she died and the place in Texas has planned on naming a rose after my grandmother, "Claribel." A lot of people say that I have a lot of her strength inside of me! The red color stands for love, respect, and strength.

In the center there will be the Chinese symbol for water which stands for life, higher wisdom, transformation, renewal, intuition, and blessing. He made it look like water is swishing up around the symbol like the parting of the red sea! I love that! This part of the tattoo stands for all of the adversities that I have faced over the past year and overcome. My family has been through so much, but we are survivors and are moving forward! I also graduated and finished my college education (finally) this past year. It took me forever to do that! This tattoo will be like freezing a moment in my life that I never want to forget. A moment when the odds were against me and I persevered!!! Ironically, the water symbol is also my astrological sign as well since I am a Cancer. Also, there will be a ladybug and a couple of butterflies ( I know stereotypical, but its cool because they are pointed at the water symbol as if watching in anticipation or in awe of some kind of spectacle!)

Anyway, Here is my design:
http://s903.photobucket.com/albums/ac231/She11ybeanz/?action=view&current=IMG_0036.jpg

Answer
Great idea, and congrats on everything you've achieved. But whether a tattoo artist likes doing them or not its their job, Unless they wanna lose business. I would say go for it anyways. You'll love it. People who first say it will probably say tramp stamp, but who cares. You know what it means. Ribs also look great on a woman! Best of luck and i hope you enjoy your tattoo.

Am I wrong or was this tattoo artist a jerk??!!?

Michelle C

Okay....so here is the deal!!! I'm not a tramp and haven't been with many people in my life. I've always had nothing but the highest of morals. Anyways, I have been thinking about getting a lower back tattoo for a while and my husband thinks that it will look really good and he has been encouraging me to "just do it". So, I put a deposit down on the design that I want and the I didn't research the artist well and he dismissed me and would not communicate with me, so I decided to go elsewhere.

Then, I went into another parlor after I did a TON of research and got recommendations and this guy's work is phenomenal. I thought, surely, my tattoo will be a cinch for him and I will feel so honored to have his art on my body. His collegue interrupted him while he was working even after I told him that I was fine waiting until he had time to talk to me and there was no rush. I told him my idea which is below and he just turned into a real ass. He said he was booked up for 3 weeks and I said I was fine with waiting until he had time. Then he said he was a real artist and has seen tattoos like this his whole career and he has been trying to get away from them and wanted to put me off on one of his apprentices. He said that he hated wasting his time on me when someone else could be getting a portrait, a sleeve, or a more unique tattoo done instead. He admitted that he was a "pompus asshole" and that he hated my fucking tattoo design and hated tribals. I told him that I didn't want a tribal and that the design I showed him just was a foundation for my idea. I wanted the artist to have creative capabilities and run with them. He insulted all of the pictures I brought to him and said that the idea could mean the world to me but that I would just be a paycheck to him and he would hate doing it. But, he would fit me in anyway because he could tell that I really wanted him to do it (GEE.....don't do me any favors....) He said I'm sorry I'm cranky but I don't like being interrupted when I'm working! HELLO....I DIDN'T INTERRUPT YOU....YOUR COWORKER DID!!!! UGH!!!! They were the ones that told me to come into the shop to speak to him directly. I called first!!!

So.....my idea is below.....and I know that it is cliche' and unoriginal....and typical.......HOWEVER.....it has meaning behind it even if the location and the actual design are typical to someone outside looking in.......does it matter except to the person who is wearing it?

First off, it will be a red rose in the middle of a vine design (the picture I showed him was tribal, but I wanted vines with leaves, thorns, maybe some butterflies or a ladybug for accents).

Beneath the rose, the chinese symbol for water will stem down (possibly in green with thorns and possibly just stay black) and it stands for life, higher wisdom, transformation, renewal, intuition, and blessing. I may have a drop of water falling off of the bottom of this symbol. This part of the tattoo stands for all of the adversities that I have faced over the past year and overcome. My parents of 32 years split up, I graduated college and fought unemployment for 6 months, and my 95 year old grandmother died. My family has been through so much, but we are survivors and are moving forward! This tattoo will be like freezing a moment in my life that I never want to forget. A moment when the odds were against me and I persevered!!! Ironically, the water symbol is also my astrological sign as well since I am a Cancer.

Anyway....Here is a link to my idea. The water symbol would replace the bottom of the tribal picture in the link and would have an additional drop added to the bottom.

Anyways.....I stood strong and was nice to
I stood strong and didn't get angry with him or cry in front of him until I got out of the shop. I did get upset because I really was excited about finally getting my tattoo and now he has totally turned me off to the idea. He made me feel stupid and cliche' for ever wanting it in the first place, despite what it meant to me. Both of the artists that I have run into turned into the very stereotypes that they have strived so hard to avoid! They put me into a box with other naive girls who just get a lower back tat for the hell of it and judged me. I thought they would have been the last to judge. I would feel honored that people would want to wear my art on their bodies for life. That's a big deal, but now I'm just hurt and insulted. I don't know if I will get a tattoo or not if that is how I am going to be treated. It definitely has not been the positive experience I thought it was going to be.
HAHAHA!!!! That's awesome!!! My husband said he was a dick too!!!
I understand that tattoo artists have seen a lot of the same things over and over again. That is fine. Maybe I would just like to be treated fairly and have a decent first experience with getting a tattoo. I don't think that is a lot to ask. My idea might be typical, however, it has significance to me and THAT is what matters. I don't care if it means anything to him. Its called respect. I give it and just wish to get a little in return, that's all.
Thank you to those of you who have sympathy. I appreciate it. I put a lot of time and thought into the meaning of my tattoo. It wasn't just a fleeting whim.
Wow...you guys are awesome! I was really about to give up on getting my tattoo, but I might keep the faith!!!
Yeah....I'm frustrated now at the treatment I have gotten by these two different artists. One could care less and won't communicate with me and the other one was just an ass. I'm getting discouraged about getting a tattoo at all now after the horrible experience that I've gotten!! These guys really screwed up too because my husband wants a tattoo too and we were an easy $1,000. Oh well.....I don't know what I'm going to do now. They gave all tattoo artists a bad name.......even the decent ones!!!

Answer
Yeah, the guy was being a jerk. I tattoo stuff all day that I don't really want to do, that's just part of the business. But another very big part of the business, is not upsetting the clientele. My guess is that you walked out of his studio and have no intentions of going back. It really is too bad that there are so many shallow people in the business. We've fired many artists, over the years, for attitudes just like that. Our number one rule is not to spoil the ambiance of the studio. Happy customers become regular customers. People who have bad experiences with idiots tend to tell the world. So be it. Take care.

What tattoo design should I get and where?

butterfly and roses tattoo design
on ... tattoo (besides the lower back) because ankle tattoos have certain
butterfly and roses tattoo design image
Q. I don't want anything big. This would be my first tattoo and most likely my only. I was thinking of getting one on my ankle or my wrist?

Also, what design should I get? I'm a girl :) I don't want a traditional one like a butterfly or a rose or a star. I wanted something unique.

Any ideas?

Get the word Enigma tattooed on you. Make sure the inks are different gradient colors as the word is spelled out

Guys, do you think tattoos on women are attractive or are they a turn off?

0_o

Hey guys I have recently been looking for tattoo ideas and on one blog I notice a few negative comments from guys. I currently have 3 tattoos. A butterfly on my upper arm, roses from my hip to my thigh, and a swirly design on my shoulder. I like to think of these as very feminine tattoos. I would just like to know what is your opinion of tattoos on women?

Answer
There will be guys that love them, and guys that hate them. It is all a matter of personal preference. You can't please everyone all the time, so why try? I love tattoos on women, the more tattoos the better. Before I got my sleeve, I would gawk at and compliment women with visible tattoos. They are the ones that inspired me to decorate my own body. I find I get alot of male attention due to my tattoos. Before my sleeve, I was a plain Jane that never got male attention. After my sleeve, I had something beautiful and unique about me. They are a great conversation piece. Both men and women come up to me and strike up conversations about them. I even inspired my mother in law to get her first tattoo at age 55. I say get as many as you want. Some people buy pretty paintings and hang them in their houses. We buy pretty artwork and put it in our skins. Best of luck to you and happy inking!

My husband n I decided to get another tattoo with our income tax, budget of $200. Dont want spend too much.He got his the other night. While there I priced out one for myself. I decided on tiger faced butterfly with some flowers n my name in vine. I added the name part. He gave me a price of $250.not counting tip.I think that is a little steep. I dont know. My husband says maybe cause of detail of tiger.

Thing is 2 yrs ago I got a tiger whole body with grass on my leg about a ft long. Only cost $129.This tat is smaller. I dont know why so much more.

Is it really the detail? Someone said maybe because of the name. Then my husband thought about it. Is it possible they would charge me two prices cause Im adding the name? They really didnt say when priced it out n I just figured that was how they priced it. Im just asking is that how it works. My husband told me I should just go with it Its worth it I worked hard n deserve something.

Now I picked out another tat Flowers going down with name in middle then more flowers. same price.I thought maybe little cheaper..I know I must sound cheap but I feel bad spending so much money from our refund. Im not complaining just asking how pricing works..What do you think?

Answer
Yes the detail can make a difference. Things like colour etc.

That being said, I would not pay anything UNDER 200 for a nice detailed tattoo that size. You want something like a tattoo to be the best it possibly can be.

should i get this tattoo on...?

Answer
Nice design, but never, ever get a visible tattoo you cannot cover up for work. No wrist tattoos. Trust me, they don't go over well in the corporate world where 99% of people will eventually end up.

What is the story behind your tattoo?

Sofia Ruiz

I realize most tattoo's have stories behind them, but some designs people just like and don't have stories. Is it pointless if you get one without a story behind it? And have you ever regret any of your tattoo's?

Answer
It's all a matter of personal choice.
I don't really see the point of getting a tattoo just for the sake of it- but then other people do and it's up to them.
But then, i'm a very arty person and 2 of my three tattoos have all been designed by myself, and i'd never dream of getting a tattoo just for the sake of it.
I don't and never will regret any of my tattoos as they are all personal to me and mean something.

My first tattoo is a rune symbol on my wrist that represents new beginnings.
I got this tattoo as i went through a bad patch in my life and came out of it a stronger person that i was to begin with. Thus i chose this symbol to remind me that whatever happened in life, i could always overcome things, and that every day was a new start and didn't have to be the same as the day before.

My second tattoo is a ivy vine that runs from my shoulder to my hip.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/xdmdx/3177212779/
This was a self designed piece, that is a memorial tattoo to my grandparents. (Hence the two colored entwining vines.)
I chose this as my gran's name was Ivy, she kept ivy in her house, and it represents love, friendship and immortality. As my gran was one of my favorite people ever, and one i loved dearly, i found the meaning of the ivy to be quite fitting.

My third tattoo (which is still being completed) is a rib piece.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/xdmdx/4353543058/
The hibiscus flower tattoo was actually a birthday present from my partner. The flowers were taken from pictures we took on a holiday last year, and the hibiscus symbolizes delicate and fragile beauty.
I thought this was fitting, as i wanted to remember that even the most beautiful things in life don't always last forever and that you should appreciate it when you have it.
The butterflies (which are not yet complete) represent every member of my immediate family and also symbolize beauty and life, which i thought fitted well with the hibiscus.

If you were to get a tattoo on your face, what and whereabouts would it be?

I know most of you wouldn't. But let's say you were going to. What would it be and where on your face would it be placed?

I think I would get a small butterfly on the side of my eye, around the temple, and some stars trailing down from it.

Answer
Mine would be to the left of my left eye. In the temple area also. Something tribal, that would flow around that side of my eye. I think it would look cool, kinda like a viking! :)

A couple of years back I almost got a tat-sleeve on my left arm. I think the tribal patterns are pretty cool tattoos. Currently, I have none. And I think I can live with that. ;)

Where can I find the RSS feed directory for Mail?

grumpish

I had to do a restore of all files related to Mail (on Mac OS X) and now I don't have all of my RSS feeds (and the data that they collected over the time that they had been running). If anyone could tell me how to get these back, it would be great!

Thanks for any help.
