What kind of tattoo designs do you have mind?

Miguel...

I'm on way to getting back into drawing. I was very good and focused on it for most of my life but it came to a point that I didn't have time to draw which sucked. So I'm trying to start by doing some peopls tattoo designs. I'm not going to steal them or anything, I just want to get some ideas flowing.
Thanks. I'm a little rough with portraits still so

Answer
I have a name and a rose on my back and also a rosary bead cross as well. I have interlocking hearts with Samoan patterns around it (reps my fiance and his family) and writing above and under it. I am planning on getting "faith" written on my wrist and hope on my other wrist. I want another cross with a rose intertwining on it on my inner arm. I want butterflies going up my back with words for each one repping my family AND a RIP tattoo for my Dad.

Q. My dad passed away about 3 years ago and I wanted to get a tattoo..I'm only sixteen so I want something that I'll still like years from now.

I was thinking "To live in the hearts of those left behind is not to die." or "Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality." Any ideas?

Answer
SO sorry for your loss. My grandfather recently passed away on March 11 2011. And in memory of him I am getting a tattoo on my shoulder blade of a butterfly which symbolizes freedom and the symbol for colon cancer which he died from.

A few nice quotes include
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. "
"To the world you may have just been somebody, but to all of us you were the world. "
"Non est ei similis" or " There is no one like him"
"Gone but not forgotten."
and... "always in our hearts" or you can say "always in my heart."

Are you just getting the words or an actual design with it. Because if your father really liked music, i found a picture of a treble clef and bass clef in the shape of a heart that would be really pretty to go with your saying.
but anyway... Best of luck with your tattoo.
P.S I'm also 16 and getting my first this weekend. :D so exciteddd!

about how long do you think this tattoo process would take?

Q. Okay im going to get a tattoo like this for my birthday in Jan. i just have a few questions before i get it done.
1.about how long do you think it will take?
2.about how much do you think it will cost? (i know every place is diffrent i just want a hint around about how much)
3.how painful do you think it could be since it is on the foot going up the leg?

sorry the link isnt highlighted but if you copy and paste it, it should take you to it..and the lettering on it i will not be getting

Answer
ooh thats going to be painful sorry no way to get around it and oh i cringe at that if done right it will be beautiful if not it might scar easily since its by the heel and alot of rubbing is going on try to find a 3 to 4 day time where you get the tattoo and dont wear any should that will chafe as money cost that much ink anywhere from 150 250 USD and not more then one 2 to 3 hr session. it will be painful but if its what you want it will be worth it remember dont use any petroleum based creams or soaps on it it will make it fade fast and dont itch it slap it if you half to and buy week 2 you wont notice it at all have talk to your artist and while your binging inked it will help with the pain bring a friend along to talk to and calm you down if needed i didnt but then again i got mine done kinda a whim i knew i wanted it but never had the time and one day i was with a friend out of town and just got it

I am thinking about getting a tattoo on my foot,The design im looking to get will take the whole top of my foot.I do have other tattoos..one on my back,my leg,and forearms so i already know what getting tattooed feels like i was just wondering how bad the foot is. :)

Answer
I had a foot tattoo done this summer and to be honest it didn't hurt as much as i thought it would. This was my 8th tattoo and i can say it didn't hurt any more than the others. It may have stung for a little longer but it was fine. Mine is on my left foot across the top, it's off a four leaf clover, horse shoe and butterflies and stars. Its all black and white, except for the clover which is done in Jade green for my friend Jade that died this year, she loved horses so i had the shoe drawn for her, and all lucky symbols, as i knew she wanted a tat with them on.

Helloo . So I have been wanting to get a butterfly tattoo (colored) on my lower back for a long time... And might get it done tomorrow. How bad does it hurt? And also whats the least painful spot to get one?

Answer
Anywhere that is more "fleshy" or where it's not directly on top of bone (Example: ribs) are more likely to hurt less, but you'll still feel "pain" or the tattoo needle on your skin regardless of where you'll get it. Arms and legs (depending exactly where) will usually hurt less--for most people. Places like ribs and feet will hurt more. White ink is also supposed to hurt more than colored or black ink.

Lower back tattoos aren't that bad...but that's really hard to say because I don't know your pain tolerance.

Where Should I Get This Tattoo On My Body?

Hey, I absolutely love this tattoo design and I really want it on me but I don't know where abouts to have it done! Answer
You can get it anywhere you like.

You should have it where YOU want it, not where some random internetter thinks you should have it.

In my opinion, that is a really awful design though. If you like butterflies, there are millions of different designs, all much prettier than that. DO some research and make sure you really do want that one.

Don't do something you will regret!!! Good luck !

What tattoo should I get on my wrist?

idontknow1

I want it to be really unique and with meaning. I'm having an internal battle with myself, if that makes sense. Like, it's hard for me to accept how life is and I just want to find peace. I want to live without worries and do what makes me happy. So, I want something that symbolizes inner peace. Something small. any ideas?

Thanks :]
Also, I have a problem with missing the past. Like, my mom has a drug addiction and has changed so much. She's not the mom she used to be, who was so caring and nurturing. Shes in rehab now and shes getting help. Im also thinking of getting something that symbolizes looking foward and not letting the past control me. Something saying that life goes on and that the future will be bright.

Answer
I've got a tattoo of a butterfly on the inside of my wrist. It represents many things for me- such as freedom because of the wings, and it's purple for gay rights, and I have it over the scars from where I used to cut in a symbolization of the fact that I'm done with that part of my life and I'm not going back there.

I think butterflies make great symbols for freedom and moving on. And it looks wonderful on the wrist/arm. You can chose whatever color you want to mean different things or leave it black and white and it'll still look amazing.

But whatever you chose, make sure to think it through and have the idea in your mind for a while before putting on your skin. Then again, I'm sure many other people have already told you that.

I hope you found this helpful and I hope that you find something you like, whatever it is, that means something to you.

What do you think about this new tattoo ink?

spink_is_n

Company creates combustible tattoo ink

Having someone's name permanently etched into your flesh is considered by some to be the ultimate testament to a relationship. But wouldn't it be great to make that commitment without really making it ... forever?

A new dye due to hit tattoo parlors this fall will provide an exit strategy of sorts for people who have thought about getting a tattoo, then wondered if they might someday have regrets.

The permanent but removable ink is made by storing dye in microscopic capsules that will stay in the skin for good. But if that butterfly tattoo on the small of your back starts looking lame, it can be zapped away with a single laser treatment With each conventional laser treatment, the dye is broken down into fragments until they are small enough to be carried away by the bloodstream, usually into the lymph nodes.

Does this effect the art in general?

Answer
It sounds all great and stuff but is it safe? Anything that ends up in your bloodstream and in your lymph nodes doesn't seem safe to me. My grandfather had cancer of the lymph nodes and it traveled all through his body and he later died. I am all about some people having a change of heart about their tats but if you have any doubt... just don't get a tattoo. I have a beautiful tat on my back and I thought about it for a couple of years before I actually went to get it. The thing about tatoos is you have to get one that is significant to you. Not just some skull with flames cause you think it will look cool. Get something that means something to and you will have problem regretting it later.

How old to get a tattoo in Ontario?

Meggan Gri

I'm 16 years old. no this is not a 'oooo I want a star, that will be cool'. I want a tattoo of emotional signifigance. I have self harm issues and want to get a butterfly tattoo on my ankle as part of the butterfly project. It would be perminent so I would have a very hard time cutting because I wouldn't want to kill the butterfly. Espically if its named after a loved one. Anyway, I'm just wndering if I could maybe get my aunt to come in and sign for me or if I could get it done myself. What would be my best option. my mom dosent really approve and she'd get upset if I told her why. Thanks!

Answer
I live in Ontario and I have 2 tattoos. You must be 18 years old. You may be a minimum age of 16, but only if your legal guardian signs for you. Unless your aunt is your legal guardian, no you can't get a tattoo.

And remember that any place that lets you get it done underage, probably isn't very reputable with other things either, such as cleanliness and health procedures :/

Is it wrong for you too keep beer in your refridgerator when you have children in your household?

simple

I have a child with a man whom i do not live with and never married. Now 6yrs later i am married, and have been for 3yrs with another man. i have already went through the custody battle part of things with my daughters father. i have physical custody of my child. and joint legal custody. Her father has not been a big part in raising her for several years now. He was too immature at first, then it went to he signed up for the army and went away and has been away for 2+years now. And any time he talks to me he has something that he wants to point out that he believes i do wrong. One being i keep beer in my fridge. two being i allow my daughter occassionally to place fake tattoo's on her. So my question's are is it okay to have beer in your fridge? And is it okay that when occasionally you get some Barbie or Butterfly washable tatoo's out and let you child attach them? Her Father believes that we should not let her see us drink and if we do to place it in a cup. Please respond also.

Answer
Of course it's ok. It's your fridge. And beer is legal.

About the tattoo stickers: I think they're ok, too. Girls like colorful, sparkly things (my 6-year-old niece loves them too). The good thing about this is that she'll probably grow out of it in a year or two and will never feel the need to get a real tattoo.

It sounds like your ex-husband is just ragging on you to make you feel bad. Don't let him give you a hard time.

I want the words 'Just Love' on the right side of my lower back. Do you think this will look good? This has special meaning to me and I have other tattoos so I'm making an informed decision, I'm just wondering if this is good placement, I don't want it to look trashy or like a tramp stamp.

Answer
"Trashy Tramp Stamps" consists of bad quality work (they stuck with the cheap price and not the expensive one or they just went to a bad tattoo artist), The actual words "Tramp Stamp" tattooed on the lower back, Words like "Insert Here" or "Sexy l3itch", The lower back tattoos that are plain and have nothing to them (the ones that cover the entire lower back shows that you are creative and will show that you are different from everyone else) unlike people who get typical designs like tribal and butterflies (too many people gets those and are overdone). So basically the ones that won't look good on you when you are a grandmother will look trashy (I doubt you would be one of those "foxy grandmothers") or ones that would bring "false advertisement"..Your idea seems creative to me and it doesn't seem trashy. At least you are not trying to be like everyone else or getting a tattoo just to get one. If I were you I wouldn't care what anyone thinks, because it's YOUR body, YOUR mind, and YOU are paying for the tattoo and not them. I wouldn't let anybody stop me from making a decision just because of a bad opinion..everyone is gonna have different opinions so sometimes you are just gonna have to ignore them and do what you want.

I wuna get a colored butterfly with a tribal design on the sides... on my lower back.. not too big.. but not too small either. any help?
and yes i know the location of the shop, the artists experience, the ink, the place, they're all factors, but around how much.
!!! i got my tattoo!!! i love it! n it was only 100... great work too.. thanx for your help and advice!

Answer
Ask the artist. Depends on his/her experience. You get what you pay for. If you have a budget, they can work within that or you can get a little done at a time.

Asking how much it will cost is like calling up a car dealer and asking the price of a blue car.

My least expensive tat was $250, my most was $1000.

Body ink is live art. Don't let ppl talk you out of it. It's your body, not theirs.

butterfly tattoo from a walk to remember image

novel.byrd

I'm working on the basic idea and plot of a new novel I'm planning. In it, the main character and two others are transported to an island with no memory at all, besides simple things-- how to talk/walk/eat, they also know about the objects of the real world, boats and cars and things. the point is that they don't remember their names.

what i want is for their names to be tattooed either on their wrists or the backs of their necks. should the names be their real names from the real world, or should they be new names, with some sort of significance?

thanks!

Answer
Cool idea. I think the names should not be their real names, but something important to them in their previous life. And they should be random things like a zodiac sign, a rock band, a television or movie reference, a Biblical reference, a short saying, an emblem, etc. Examples: Capricorn, Metallica, Genesis 1:1, Semper Fi, Live Long and Prosper, Army Strong, a butterfly, a heart, a gator, etc.

What are some reasons i should read A Walk To remember by Nicholas Sparks?

iloveyou<3

also, what is a good book cover for the book?

Answer
I love that book! And the movie is amazing too! Its cliche, but its such a good love story. A good book cover would be a picture of a butterfly, because that is the kind of tattoo she gets.

We are looking for ideas something small, pretty and feminine.
Also where on our bodies should we get them? Some where that they could be seen but maybe could be covered if needed.
My bf and I are both very alike we are both 5' 2", she weighs about 95, 96 lbs mid 20's and I am 5'2" weigh about 99 to 100lbs late 20's

Answer
I have three tattoos, and the funny thing is the plain girly ones, (one's a heart, the other a butterfly) are the ones I like and am glad I have. The creative larger tattoo is something I wish I had never done. So my suggestion would be go with something plain and cute, a heart or a little trail of stars or something like that. As far as where, I think any place but the arms or the shins, which I think looks tacky. (No offense to anybody with tattoos in those spots, just my opinion!!) The ankle I think is cute, feet are cute but they wear out and you have to get them redone all the time, my sister has a really beautiful one on her upper chest (not breast) that I would never do but actually turned out very pretty. Good luck and have fun!

I'm afraid that if I get a small tattoo on my back it will become deformed, will it or will it become larger?

I wouldn't mind it larger but let me know if it will become freaky and ugly.

Answer
I have had a small(2 in by 3 in) tattoo of a butterfly on my left shoulder for over 35 years and one on my forearm. Have gained and lost weight, been active and a couch potato. The tattoo has never deformed nor has it changed shape. The color faded and had to be redone twice now but that is all. It faded because my skin is very acidic and I have problems with jewelry, tattoos and such. The only problem I have had is when I had to have stomach surgery and the incision went right through another tat so the doctor just removed the whole thing so it wouldn't look wierd.
My Dad had well over a dozen all over his body and they never changed or became ugly. I want to be the old lady in the nursing home with the tattooed body that everyone goes to see.

Based on the true story of Henri Charriere, also known as Papillon~French for "butterfly". (He even sports a large tattoo of a butterfly). A petty criminal, Papillon is wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in a French penal colony in Guiane (French Guiana, South America). Papillon is determined to escape, but attempt after attempt meets with difficulty, resulting in eventual recapture. He continues his attempts to escape despite incarcerations in solitary confinement as punishment.
TRIVIA:
Dustin Hoffman had to wear contact lens so that he could see correctly through the thick glasses he had to wear. He based his character on the movie's screenwriter, Dalton Trumbo, particularly his withdrawn and shy mannerisms that had inspired Hoffman when meeting the writer for the first time.

Hoffman's then-wife, Anne Byrne Hoffman, plays his wife in this movie and is the first person to utter any words of dialogue in the opening sequence.

Although billed as a true story, the French in French Guiana claim that much of the story of Henri "Papillon" Charriere is fabricated. Papillon, who was only 25 at the time, was documented to have been incarcerated in Saint Laurent and may have escaped from there, but he never served any time on the Devil's Islands, now known as Iles du Salut or Salvation Islands. The book and movie both present Devil's Island as having rocky cliffs, when, in fact, though the entire island is rocky, it gently slopes into the surrounding sea.

I can't find verification about timing waves. Did he use a sort of coconut raft? I'm fairly certain that the film you're describing is "Papillon". I'm not sure how much resemblance there is between Steve McQueen and Tim Robbins though; they're rather far apart in resemblance. So, this might not be the one.

I wrote this to be mostly like a character overview and it turned into a story a little bit. I'm probably going to change the formatting but please tell me what you think of it!

Parts of Jayne

Feet: pink toe-nails over pale purple dead skin cells. Peach toned skin, just as soft as a peach also (boys died to feel a peach that way). They suffocate in the ocean's white sand, only her knobby little ankles can breathe, maybe a pink toe or two also.

Legs: too skinny, prickly with goose bumps, hairs like a juvenile porcupine (she shaved them just 3 days ago). Half way up on the right shin a small cut scabbed over and slightly picked at. Knees with no folded skin, no faces of an old man, they were bent slightly, swaying with the wind. Little thighs, with a bruise from unknown incidents lingered among the thousands of tiny goose bumps (boys just died to reach their hands up her leg).

Hips: covered by a wizened baby blue sundress, rimmed with lace, and black nylon fabric weaved in throughout the bottom. Under her sundress, there were little pink cotton bikini panties (boys just died to take them off) also rimmed with innocent white lace. Underneath the layers of clothing was a small butterfly tattoo, just under the edge of her panties, hidden from her parents. Her little butterfly lay on her smooth peachy toned skin, just next to her hip bone that jutted out like a mountain in the middle of the ocean.

Stomach: under the wrinkled blue sundress, just above her virgin hips a small belly button. Perfect, round indented into her soft smooth stomach. Not so smooth as her ribs extruding almost through her skin (boys just died to count the valleys and mountains), piercing her inner flesh, she never felt it; for then she could not breathe. Inside her delicate rib cage, lay her lungs moving up and down, catching her when she falls they inflate, deflate. She keeps breathing.

Chest: just above her smooth, almost too flat of stomach grew small hills of her breasts. Just under her breasts another black nylon fabric strip tied around her back in bunny ears like they teach you in preschool (boys just died to unravel her). Underneath and just above the black ribbon, a soft pink bra, lined with lace (she was not a promiscuous girl or a tease, she enjoyed lace) latched tightly all the way on the third hook.

Shoulders: They sit lazily atop her body, hung over her; she is a puppet. Her bones sink into her body, from the heap of dirt casually tossed onto them, giving them tasks no young girl should deal with, but she does. Tight with knots, (her father is a sailor) they mull around like lazy dogs on a hot afternoon, worthless and good for nothing sores. They are thin, wistful in a way. When she exhales you can see the bones poke through just below her neck. Her skin sunk like loose linen over her bones (boys just died to nuzzle their mouth in the creases of her shoulders). The straps of the little sundress sat listlessly on her shoulders; her right shoulder was slightly drooped down leading the strap to follow in pursuit.

Arms: hang loosely at her sides, loosely as in you could pull her away from her thinking and they would fall right out. She is a tragic girl. Thin little pencils, they were, etched with scars from various none purposeful moments, (sort of like an elementary boy bored with his day, chewing and gnawing at the lead based wooden writing utensil he holds in his dirty nailed fingers.) Off her arms proceed her fingers, little fingers with little nails (pink to match her toes), they were bent casually, not straight, not stiff like a board. In her right hand she held a small rock that had no intension. In her left hand, nothing (boys just died to hold it with much intention). They were quite clammy, possibly from the ocean breeze or from her deep intimate thinking with herself.

Neck: thin and narrow... lovely little neck. (Boys just died to kiss her neck all over). Often times she breathed from her throat, when she was sad or anxious. Her breaths were like cats panting in the summer heat, quick and concise. One could see her small little esophagus move up and down, like she was drinking water, she only drinks air.

Head: Round, but more of an oval, with strands of blonde hair woven in by her older sister, (boys just died to smell and weave their hands in that lovely mess). Wavy, a bit wet too. Wonderful highlights of gold and brunette, with streaks of platinum chopped heavily with seared scissors, radiated from the overcast sun. All of it tied back into a small little pony-tail. Strands hung down in her face, the strands that were too little to reach the back of her head. Positioned high, and slightly jutted forward, it never hung low.

Face: soft, with cheeks of raspberries. A subtle jaw line, (boys just died to caress her jaw line) leading up to little ears, they had no piercings, no diamonds trickling like rain off her. From the side, her profile, some may think she was very young possibl

Answer
First off, you have excellent description. I know exactly what she looks like.

But that's just it - you don't want your reader to know *exactly* how your character looks. And with this description, you've set up a lot of material for Jayne to be called a Mary Sue.

I just need to point out:

1. You've made every part of her irresistable to boys
2. Her only flaws are bruise, a cut on her leg and some purplish skin around her toes.
3. You describe too much useless information such as the color of her nails
4. From her side view, she doesn't look her age.

Now, it's not bad at all to have your character have Mary Sue traits. It's like sugar. Too much is bad for you, too little is boring.

I don't think this is the type of character description you should include in a book. A paragraph of this is too much. Try to describe things through action.

EXAMPLE: The gold framed glasses blended with her face as put them on. Tara could see the photo clearly now. She pulled the picture closer to her eyes as if to examine it like a detective. 'Yes, this is Mike,'

In that, you got her glasses and the color of her hair! You can slip in description wherever you want. You *can* describe a lot of her features at once, but it drags on for the reader. And people like me get the impression of a Mary Sue.

Here's something to help you know when/how to include description: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnoH_XASqp7nMM647adHjDzty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100713153602AA817EA&show=7#profile-info-FTZIQKxEaa

Otherwise, you have GREAT writing skills. Keep up the descriptions; just don't include too many useless facts. I think its fine on its own, but not something you'd want in a novel, no.

Hope that helps! :)

What are the basics when getting a tattoo?
What if you are under age?

Answer
i am a tattoo artist and heres my thoughts. tattoos hurt. plain and simple. its not the most excruciating pain you'll ever endure, but its a bit annoying all the same. a tattoo can feel different at different times. tattoo placement and certain skin areas can really amp up the pain factor. at times, tattoos feel like a little vibration. other times, like someone is holding a cigarette to your skin. its all about where you put it and how well the artist knows technique.

the basics of getting a tattoo:
1. be 100% sure of the design and the placement before you get one done.
2. find a well trained and preferably certified artist in your area
3. If underage, take a parent with you to sign all the proper forms and liablitly releases
4. endure the pain and give the artist the respect and time to complete your new beautiful artwork. most artist hate when they have to stop 100 times in one tattoo. it usually takes between an hour-3 hours for a tattoo. a small cute little butterfly only should take 45 minutes.
5. make sure you ask how to take care of it and follow the artist's directions 100%
6. enjoy your permanent artwork.

another pointer if you are underage.
if you are under 21 but over 16 most artist will tattoo you. if you are under 16, good luck. its harder to find someone that will tattoo and younger person because the maturity and pain threshold are not usually present at such an age. either way, make 100% sure of your design and make 100% sure of your parents decision. dont try to get a friend to sign for you because then you are forging and forfeiting the contracts you sign. if your parents get angry and want to sue the artist, the artist can then turn it around on you and your friend and cause more hurt than just the tattoo. most wont do this, but dont ever try to get away with something like that in the first place.

Designs for a barbed Wire Tattoo Cover Over?

Couture

I have a simple thin armband Barbed Wire Tat. What would be the best design (or suggested cover over design website) for me to have to cover over this tat?

Answer
The obvious answer is to put tribal over the barbed wire, but then you would have to do something to get rid of the tribal. Maybe just put a few different sized butterflies over the points and shade the wire brown or green like a honeysuckle vine. Butterflies seem to be very popular....just a thought - not a suggestion.

I read your responses to questions daily and have to laugh.... I like your sense of humor! Thanks for my biggest laugh of the day....

It gets so frustrating to come here and see such questions sometimes! Or how about the 13 year old asking if she'll need her parents permission? That had to be my favorite =)

I am 38 and have recently decided that I want a wrist/bracelet tattoo?

becky S

I want a compilation of whimsical stars, butterflies, a ladybug, swirlies, hearts, clover, all randomly placed all around my wrist. Am I crazy?

Answer
I tend to agree with the above. Unless all the random (and common) tattoo designs that you have chosen mean something to you, I think that you should wait, and work out a much more personal design, and have it truly yours.
I have an extensive wrist bracelet tattoo that I got over 4 1/2 sessions and about 13 hrs. It is filled with images and details that are very personal to me, that I designed, in collaboration with my tattoo artist. It was my 3rd tattoo (I have 5) I got the 1st on my 50th B-day.
A wrist tattoo bracelet, you see constantly, and if what you have chosen to put there isn't personal, you will wish that you had chosen differently. This needs to be thought out very carefully before committing to having it done.
I would start drawing out your ideas, make bands and tape them on your wrist, to check them out. Placements are crucial, sizes are important, how much detail, how thick the lines, etc. You need to take into consideration that your skin moves with every hand movement and arm twist. (hold your hand out and turn it this way and that - your images moves around.)
Here's a great article on how to get a tattoo without regret:
http://galadarling.com/article/how-to-get-a-great-tattoo-and-never-regret-it

take your time, and know that even if you think that you have it all worked out, you will be surprised by it in many ways, once it is translated into an actual tattoo.

you can email me here if you have any further questions

luck~
